Brandon
Brown
Michelin Etha Engomis with 5 players in double figures succeeded a great home win over the newcomer Greek Head Coach Chris Chougaz's Pizza Express Apollon with 73-63 and proved to the Greek Coach that needs to do a lot of changes in the team if he wants to "survive" in the Cyprus league. Apollon is remaining at the last positions of the league together with ENAD with just one victory in five games.
Even though Pizza Express Apollon had in another great performance its super star American forward Brandon Brown (201-F-85, college: CS San Bernar.) who finished the game with 28 points and 13 rebounds being the only player with double digits on behalf of the visitors, the players from Limassol couldn't react in the most crucial part of the game when the difference was cut off from 12 points in the 28th minute to its minimum and just one basket (58-56) in the 34th minute. From that minute and onwards the score from 58-56 and with Etha reacting mainly with Williams and Downey succeeded a solid 15-7 and gave an end in the game once and for all.
The first period ended with 17-13 for the home team with Dejan Cup and Ackida McLain scoring 7 and 7 points respectively while on the other hand Brandon was the leading figure on behalf of the visitors with 5 points.
The second period started much better for the home team and with solid and simple basketball especially in the last five minutes of the first half (25-20) with a 16-8 increased their difference to 41-28 with Downey (9 points), Ogooluwa Adegboye (182-PG-87, college: St.Bonaventure) (7 points) and Cup (9 points) leading their team while on the other hand only Brandon was fighting for the best since Diego Kapelan (190-G-87, college: McNeese St.)'s early fourth foul cut the chances for Apollon's possible comeback.
Against all odds though, Apollon reacted and Brandon's amazing scoring skills gave many hopes to the visitors as initially the 41-34 scored by Noel cut the deficit 3 minutes after the beginning of the 3rd period to find Etha's reactions immediate and end up the period to +9 and 53-44.
The first minutes of the 4th period were dramatic as Apollon with Brandon once more cut the deficit 6.14' to the end to 58-56 and the few fans thought that they would have witnessed a great comeback since Brandon already scored his 26 points (of total 56 of his team) but Diego Kapelan's missed three pointer and free throw were fatal as Etha with Donte Poole (190-G-89, college: Murray St.), Johnson and Ogooluwa Adegboye took the initiatives and gave an early end to the game as Brandon was too tired to continue answering back....
Top scorers:
Etha: Donte Poole 13, Ogooluwa Adegboye, McLain, Johnson 11 per head, Williams 10 and Cup 9
Apollon: Brandon Brown 28, Detrick 8, Diego Kapelan 9
Etha has a 3-2 record while the disapointing Apollon has 1-4

Wee 6: Keravnos was the boss and dominated in Paralimni!! - 5 days ago

During the 6th week Keravnos Strovolou (who's currently in the first position of the league after six games with a 5-1 record) dominated at all edges and got a small revenge from Paralimni is the team of Coach Papadopoulos was the one and only to force the Strovolos team (during the first round) to suffer their only (until now) defeat in the competition. The final score 43-75 says it all!! Coach Livadiotis troops remembered very well what has happened in their home court a month ago and w...   [read more]
