Bobby Maze
The supposed to be derby between the team of Coach Yiannaras, Keravnos Strovolou against Coach Chris Chougaz, Pizza Express Apollon Limassol never took place as in the game which ended some hours ago, the home team thrashed the visitors with 94-78 in the top performing game of the American Bobby Maze (191-PG-86, college: Tennessee) who was simply excellent in all edges of the court ending the game with 28 points, 12 assists, 2 steals and 4 rebounds in all 40 minutes he was in the court with amazing stats!
The game in regards to defenses was not the best feasible one and the home team took an early lead of +5 in the first period with Bobby Maze already scoring 10 points and showing his moods from the early stages of the game. On the other hand, the to scorer of the league and among the top scorers in the Eurochallenge too, Brandon is having a "break" from his top tier games since for a second consecutive game is remaining in shallow waters his 5 points in the first period was not bad in compare with his total 8 at the end. The newcomer Andrew Warren (195-G-87, college: Bradley) though was the leading figure for the Limassol team.

The second period found the home team to lead with as many as +9 at the beginning of the period with the veteran Aleksandar Damjanovic (206-C/F-73) adding his 4th point for the 27-18, while Tony Crocker (201-G/F-87, college: Oklahoma) 5 minutes after that gave a double digit to the Strovolos team +12 and 38-26. Aleksandar Damjanovic a minute after with a goal-foul (9th point) gave a +15 to Keravnos 43-28, to do his personal points 11 and give to his team a serious lead 3.25' before the end of the first half with the score being 45-30. Somewhere there and after a time out by Chougaz, Apollon's players took over and with
Diego Kapelan (190-G-87, college: McNeese St.)'s three unanswered three pointers in less than 100 seconds, the visitors reshaped the score to 45-39 giving some hopes to their few fans in Papaellinas court. Bobby Maze's first basket in the second period simply added another two points difference to close the gap and the first half with 48-41 showing everybody that a derby is arising...

The Strovolos fans were terrified as they though that their team would have had the same syndrome as the previous 4 games to collapse in the second half but they were counting without Bobby Maze, the American guard was simply excellent, together with Tony Crocker gave once more a double digit difference to their team +10 (57-47), 5.25' before the end of the period and 1 and a half minutes later a +15 was a fact by Tony Crocker's 12th point. The American guard was the one to close the period as his three pointers at the end gave a +18 to his team (74-56) with Tony Crocker scoring 17 points and Bobby Maze having 10 assists and 21 points! The game was simply over, the momentum was 100% for Keravnos, his players succeeded their best third period in the last 2 months and that gave them the victory.

The 4th period was typical with Keravnos reaching the +21 after Tony Crocker's three pointer 15 seconds from the beginning of the last period and from then and one the two teams were moving basket to basket with the home team keeping its paste while Apollon players couldn't not do really something other than cutting the deficit. It is worth mentioned the difference in the rebounding area since the home team dash down 33 rebounds in compare to Apollon with his just 20, while the 6 block shots of Apollon over the one of Keravnos is the only area where the visitors were better than the home team.

The top scorers were as follows:

Keravnos: Bobby Maze 28, Tony Crocker 22, Aleksandar Damjanovic 16 and 6 rebounds, Panagiotis Trisokkas (206-F/C-80) 11 and 6 rebounds

Apollon: Andrew Warren 20, Diego Kapelan 17, Armin Avdibegovic (188-PG-84) 12

Wee 6: Keravnos was the boss and dominated in Paralimni!! - 5 hours ago

During the 6th week Keravnos Strovolou (who's currently in the first position of the league after six games with a 5-1 record) dominated at all edges and got a small revenge from Paralimni is the team of Coach Papadopoulos was the one and only to force the Strovolos team (during the first round) to suffer their only (until now) defeat in the competition. The final score 43-75 says it all!! Coach Livadiotis troops remembered very well what has happened in their home court a month ago and w...   [read more]
