A Cyprus star in the Nike International Junior Tournament in Rome - Dec 28, 2012

The Nike International Junior Tournament (NIJT), Citta di Roma which is taking place in Rome every December, this year has a special interest for the Cyprus Basketball since the main member of the team of Mantoulidis is actually coming from Aphrodite's island.

The Greek team which is very well known for its academies and the many players playing in the A1 and the A2 leagues, has this year two Cyprus members, Rafael Eleftheriou (200-G-94) and Antreas Christodoulou (197-SF-95), with Rafael being one year older (1994) and has no right to participate in the specific tournament, the small country of Cyprus will represent the young Cyprus star, Antreas Christodoulou, who is the stand out of the Greek team of Mantoulidis in the tournament and even though the Greek team suffered two loses in the first two games of this international Junior Tournament, Christodoulou was the man of the match in both the games for his team.

In both the games of the Greek team the top performer and top scorer was Christodoulou who scored against the junior team of Malaga 14 points (out of the 37 of his team) while in the second game the young Cyprus International player scored 25 points against the home team of Stella Azure Roma (out of the 61 points that Mantoulidis scored)

Both the players (Rafael and Andreas) consider being (together with Viktoras Ieronymidis (200-G/F-95) who's currently in the Sates) the top tier players of the country and among (probably) the top players of the island the last couple of decades. With the necessary work-out and the necessary help from their families they will take the island to another Basketball level if they decide to proceed in a Basketball career as proffesional players.

Lefke inks Benjamin Lawson - 22 hours ago
Lefke Avrupa Universitesi (North League) signed 22-year old British forward Benjamin Lawson (216-104kg-95). The North League, which is located in Turkish part of the island is the league which is extremely hard to get any information from. It is not officially recognized by FIBA and practically ignored by any other country that Turkey. Lawson just graduated from W.Kentucky (NCAA). Lawson has played there for the last four years. In 32 games he had 5.3ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.8bpg last season. A...   [read more]

Cypriot Division A round 1 best performance: Evrik Gary - 2 days ago
American Guard Evrik Gary (191-G-91) had an amazing evening in the last round for second-ranked Apoel, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 1. The 26-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, four rebounds and three assists) to his team's victory, helping them to outclass, the league's bottom-ranked team Apollon (#5, 0-1) with 29-point margin 96-67. Apoel is placed at 2nd position in Cypriot Division A. But it's just the very beginning of the season and...   [read more]

Division A Round 1 of Regular Season - 3 days ago
The Regular Season in Division A just started. The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Apollon (0-1) in Nicosia on Monday night. Visitors were rolled over by Apoel (1-0) 96-67. Apoel outrebounded Apollon 38-27 including 17 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Apollon's players. American guard Evrik Gary (191-91, college: Francis Marion) stepped up and scored 26 points for the winners and...   [read more]
