Canadian Murphy Burnatowski (200-SF-90) had a very impressive game in the last round for Apoel and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 10. The 26-year old had the game-high 18 points adding eight rebounds and four assists for Apoel in his team's victory, helping them to beat Etha (#6, 2-8) 71-62. Apoel maintains the 3rd position in Cypriot Division A. Apoel is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 5-5 record. In the team's last game Burnatowski had a remarkable 87.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be Apoel's top player in his first season with the team. Murphy Burnatowski averages this season 12.4ppg and 5.6rpg.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 37-year old Slovenian power forward Primoz Brezec (216-F/C-79) of second-ranked AEK. Brezec impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 15 rebounds. Bad luck as AEK lost that game 63-79 to slightly higher-ranked Keravnos (#1, 9-1). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. AEK still maintains its place in the top 2 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 7-3 record is not bad at all. Brezec is well-known by AEK fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.
The third best performed player last round was American Jermaine Marshall (193-G-90) of Apollon (#5). Marshall scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was a key player of Apollon, leading his team to a 67-63 win against slightly higher-ranked Enosis (#4, 4-6). The chances of Apollon not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 7 games, recording just three victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Marshall could try to bring Apollon's a little bit higher in the standings. Marshall has individually a great season in Cyprus. After only 9 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.1ppg (5th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Maxie Esho (206-F-91) of Etha - 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists 5. Iraklis Pittakas (192-G-84) of Apollon - 22 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Eric Washington (178-PG-93) of Enosis - 17 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists 7. Daiquan Walker (188-PG-93) of Etha - 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists 8. Nikolaos Stylianou (198-F-88) of Keravnos - 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists 9. Kenny Barker (191-G-86) of Keravnos - 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists 10. Tre Bussey (190-G-91) of Apoel - 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
