Michael
Mokongo
First of all i would like to congratulate both teams for a great series. A general analysis notes that the series was split pretty much equally in both teams. Keravnos was better at games 2 and 3 and Apoel was better at games 1,4 and 5.

Games 4 and 5

At game 5, Apoel was amazing defensively winning the game with 54-63.

Great, great defense at games 4 and 5 from Michael Mokongo (180-PG-86) and Stiggers on Maze. Maze had a great game 3 at Strovolos in which he had 28 points. At game 4 he remained at 7 and at game 5 he finished with 15.

Defense has to do with a few things, two of those being steals and rebounds.

First, at game 5 Apoel has stolen the ball 12 times compared to only 4 of the home team.

Second, we have mentioned a few times that Keravnos has been the best rebound team in the regular season with an average of 41 rebounds per game. Statistical analysis has shown that when Keravnos remains at 34-35 rebounds looses the game, of course when other things remain constant. This took place at games 1 and 4 when Keravnos grabbed less that 34 rebounds and lost both games. At game 2 Keravnos grabbed 42 rebounds and won. At game 3 even though Keravnos remained below 35 it won because Apoel was bad defensively and shot badly. At game 5 Apoel kept Keravnos at exactly 35 rebounds grabbing a total of 40 rebounds it self, again winning the game. So statistics have been pretty much correct.

What has changed

I strongly believe that Apoel appeared completely different at the last two games. What has changed after game 3 were three things. First, Apoel decided to play defense, second it dramatically improved its shooting percentage, and third it took the ball inside both to Chan and Morrison.

Shooting wise, at game 4 Apoel had 81% behind the 3-point line. At game 5, Apoel did not score too high, but it shot better than the home team. It shot a total of 42% compared to the very low 35% of Keravnos. Keravnos had only 2 in 21 behind the 3-point line with Buljan having 0 in 5, Demertzis 0 in 3 and Stokes 1 in 5.

At this point i wish to note that at game 3 at Strovolos, Keravnos was much better both shooting wise and defensively. It had 8 in 13 behind the 3-point line and had 8 steals compared to 3 of Apoel. So at game 5 the roles were somehow reversed.

Morrison had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Wells had 14 points and 7 rebounds, Porter had 15 points and Cremen finished with 10. Chan had 7 points and in general had a very good game.

In the loosing squad Maze had 15 and Buljan had 12.

Congratulations to Apoel for reaching the final after a difficult regular season. Apoel has reversed the home court disadvantage to reach the final.
