Cyprus earned the fourth straight win at the Francophone Games in Beirut. They toppled Mali to stay on top of Pool A. Mali slipped at 1-3 record. Biljana Pesovic (180-G-83) paced balanced effort with 13 points. Cyprus opened the game with aggressive defense. They held their opponents to just 10 points in the starting quarter and ensured a 7-point lead into the second period. The teams traded baskets throughout the second frame and the margin remained at 7-point mark at halftime. Cyprus controlled the tempo after the major break. They fired 20 points in the third term and boosted the lead at 14 points with ten minutes to go. Mali could not match the effort and had to take in the defeat. Joanna Szott, Joaclyn Johnslynon and Masa Scelkic finished with 9 points each in the winning effort. Tirira Meiya had 16 points for Mali. Traore Natira (90) delivered 9 points in defeat. Mali will next face Cote dIvoire, while Cyprus is scheduled to take on France.

Cyprus opened the 2009 Francophone Games with three straight wins. The victories put the team on top of preliminary Group A in Beirut.
Cyprus opened the tournament with a 66:42 win over Tunisia. Cyprus built a 30:19 lead at halftime and cruised to the win at the end. Biljana Pesovic (180-G-83) produced 15 points to pace the winners. Joanna Szott and Masa Scelkic added 11 points each for Cyprus.

Cyprus built a 30:19 lead at halftime and cruised to the win at the end. Biljana Pesovic (180-G-83) produced 15 points to pace the winners. Joanna Szott and Masa Scelkic added 11 points each for Cyprus. Next Cyprus faced the team of Quebec. Cyprus used a 26:12 run in the second period to run away for good in this one. Biljana Pesovic knocked down 20 points in 90:47 victory. Masa Scelkic and Daliborka Vilipic (196-C-75) produced 15 points each in the winning effort. Sfamour responded with 11 points in defeat. The third game was the most challenging for Cyprus so far. They faced Cote dIvoire and led by 7 points at the first intermission. But the African team rebounded in the second period and narrowed the deficit. Cyprus stepped on the gas in the third stanza and built a decisive 15-point lead heading into the fourth stanza. Cyprus crafted an 80:64 win at the end. Joanna Szott produced 16 points and 8 boards. Biljana Pesovic netted 15 points for the winning team. Kani Kouyate and Mariama Kouyate (88) responded with 12 points each in defeat. Cyprus will next take on Mali on Friday.
