Division A Round 11: Derby game ends with Keravnos' defeat of APOEL - Feb 1, 2016

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nicosia: Keravnos (#1) and APOEL (#5). Keravnos (10-0) crushed visiting APOEL (3-6) by 29 points 62-33. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 17-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 62-33. Keravnos dominated on the defensive end, holding APOEL to just 4 points in second quarter and to 14 points in second half. Undefeated Keravnos have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 10-0 record. APOEL at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Keravnos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. APOEL will play at home against APOP Paphou (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Apollon (6-3) which played road game in Paphou against 4th placed APOP Paphou (5-5). Third ranked Apollon managed to get a 8-point victory 64-56. Apollon maintains third place with 6-3 record having five points less than leader Keravnos. APOP Paphou at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Apollon will play against AEK (#6) in Larnaca in the next round. APOP Paphou will play on the road against APOEL in Nicosia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
AEK's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after eight consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat ENAD (1-9) 75-37 on Sunday. AEK (1-8) left bottom position moving up to sixth place. It was ENAD's fifth loss in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with nine games lost. AEK will meet higher ranked Apollon (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. ENAD will play against the league's second-placed AEL Limassol (#2) and hope to win that game.

Keravnos - APOEL 62-33

APOP Paphou - Apollon 56-64

An interesting game for Apollon (6-3) which played road game in Paphou against 4th placed APOP Paphou (5-5). Third ranked Apollon managed to get a 8-point victory 64-56. It looked good early as APOP Paphou took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Apollon had a 22-11 second period charge getting the lead and APOP Paphou was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 56-64. Apollon maintains third place with 6-3 record having five points less than leader Keravnos. APOP Paphou at the other side keeps the fourth position with five games lost. Apollon will play against AEK (#6) in Larnaca in the next round. APOP Paphou will play on the road against APOEL in Nicosia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

GS Kronos Agiou Dimitriou (A2) signed experienced 34-year old Cypriot guard Eleana Pantazi (177-83). It is actually her comeback to Kronos as she has played here before. Pantazi will still stay in Greece where she played last season at PAOK Thessalonikis in the A1. In 21 games she had 4.3ppg and 1.1rpg. Keravnos Strovolou (Division A) landed 31-year old Greek international guard Niki Avery (168-86, college: E.Kentucky, agency: Interperformances). She has a double citizenship as she also holds American passport. Avery played most recently at Panathinaikos in Greek A1 league.
