Kalia
Papadopoulou
The most successful player (in both men and women) of Cyprus Basketball is officially the player (and head Coach) of AEL Limassol, International point guard Kalia Papadopoulou (166-G-80)! Kalia with an international career in both Greece and France is the permanent MVP of the Cyprus league the last many-many season!! This season the experienced point guard in a different role as she had to coordinate the team in both ways, as a captain and organizer in the court and as Head Coach at the same time, she managed to win all trophies and to add another double in her awesome career so far...

Kalia Papadopoulou begun her career 23 years ago back in 1993 with the colors of her current team AEL Limassol, where she played for 5 consecutive winning three doubles (1993, 1997, and 1998) and another two Cyprus cups. In 1998 she moved to Thessaloniki in order to play with the jersey of Megas Alexandros in the A1 league as a member of the starting five with very good statistics, where she stayed for three season before signing up with APO Thermaikos where she remained there for another three seasons winning the champion in the A2 league and the promotion to the A1 league the same season (2002-2003) the next season played in the A1 league with the jersey of APS Siemens having an amazing year too, where in 17 games she averaged 7.6 points and nearly 5 assists per game. The next three seasons 2005-2008 joined forces with her favorite team, AEL Limassol where she, once more, won three championships and two Cups, being the most valuable player in all three seasons, something which was paid up by her top tier transfer in the French league and the team US Laveyron Drome in the season 2008-2009 in the NF2 league. The next season finds her in the Greek league once more and this time with the jersey of OA Hania in the A1 league where she stayed until the end of the season. The next season is finding her back to her country, as she played with the jersey of Keravnos Strovolou (2010-2011) where she was voted as the top female basketball player of the country from the Cyprus Basketball Federation. From the season 2011-2012 until today is a player of AEL Limassol where she is won four doubles and two cups being in most of the season the MVP of the league.

She is the only player with so great international and National career with so many team and personal titles and she has been voted in Eurobasket.com as an MVP of the league nine times until now, where this season (like last one) she has been voted (Euroabsket.com) also as the top Basketball Head Coach, unique titles for a player/coach (probably in Europe) the last two seasons, 2014-2015 and 2015-2016. In the season 2014-2015, she drove her team AEL Limassol (on her double role, as a Coach and player too) to an awesome 24-0 record winning all trophies and all awards in the Cyprus Women's league.

Kalia Papadopoulou is a member of the Women's Cyprus NT the last 21 years!!, from 1995 onward and the last 6 years (from 2008) she is the captain of the Cyprus NT. She has been voted as the MVP of the Cyprus League officially from the Cyprus Basketball Federation severe times

Kalia Papadopoulou begun her coaching career (parallel to her player's career) back in 2006-2007 where she won the league in the U16 Cyprus league in her rookie career as a Head Coach, while since then she have won a number of titles in all the age groups she coached, while she also coached U18 Men's team where she also won two consecutive doubles. All these titles with Proteas da Noi AEL Limassol

One may wonder wonder why she have never been called by the Cyprus Basketball Federation to take over the Women's National Team, (as a Head Coach or even as an Assistant Coach) all these years, as she consider to be the most successful player and Head Coach in the Cyprus Women Basketball, with icons and experience abroad like no other in the island. Who knows what is the reason.. Hopefully the Cyprus Federation will do something about it very soon as people like Kalia Papadopoulou can only offer positive energy, experience and of course successes to Cyprus Basketball, elements that are most needed.....
