Keravnos Strovolou open the official season with a solid victory over the champion team of AEK Larnakas with 78-70 in a game which open the season. Keravnos played passionated and with six players in double digits won the derby in the last period of the game as before that the game was totally balanced. AEK played without its tower as the veteran Primoz Berec lost the opener due to a slight injury...

In the first part of the game, the two teams enter the court quite balanced but by the end of the first period and du to the awesome shooting from the parameter, the home team with Stylinou and Michael gave a deficit of +12 few minutes before the end of the game before the captain of the visiting side, Iakovos Panteli (187-G-85) with 5 personal points cut the deficit to half at the end of the first period with 26-17

AEK was much better entering the second half and with Petrovic and Iakovos Panteli cut the deficit to just 3 points before Stylianou succeeds in another long three pointer. AEK's players answered back quickly and finalized the first half in a total balance of 45-45.

The same goes for the third period where the two teams were scoring in the fist 3 minutes with the same flow, before AEK gets the lead for the fist time of the game with Iakovos Panteli being once more the leading figure of the visitors.. But Stylianou and Michael Simon (185-G-92) once more had a different opinion and by the end of the third period were able to give to their team the lead with 60-58.

The fourth period was quite intensive at the beginning, with AEK taking the initiative with Trisokkas but Parks was there for Keravnos, with 5 personal points gave an "air" of 4 points 2.30 minutes before the end of the game (72-68). The dramatic final part of the game Michael Simon who can be characterized as the MVP of the game stole the ball and with his own three pointer gave a +7 at his team (77-70) which psychologically cut the dreams for a possible road win for Coach Gavriel's team. The final 78-70 came with a free throw at the end. Even though Mohamed Abukar (208-F-85, college: San Diego St., agency: Two Points) was the top scorer with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, the MVP award goes to the Cyprus International guard Michael Simon who actually put a stepping stone at AEK's dreams at the very end..

The periods were: 26-17, 45-45, 60-58, 78-70

Keravnos: Ross 10, Mohamed Abukar 18, Parks 7, Michael 11, Stylianou 12, O'Brien 10, Barker 10

AEK: Sizopoulos 8, Petrovic 11, Trisokkas 14, Thomas 11, Biggs 5, Iakovos Panteli 14
