Thomas' 22 points and 8 assists give him Player of the Week award - Dec 11, 2016

Torey Thomas
31-year old point guard Torey Thomas (178-PG-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for second-ranked AEK and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
He had the game-high 22 points adding seven rebounds and eight assists for AEK in his team's victory, helping them to beat Apollon (#5, 2-6) 60-55. AEK maintains the 2nd position in Cypriot league. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. AEK will need more victories to improve their 6-2 record. In the team's last game Thomas had a remarkable six three-pointers out of 9 attempts. It was one of impressive evenings for him as usually he does not deliver so high stats. College of Holy Cross graduate has very impressive stats this year. Thomas is in league's top in rebounds (5th best: 5.5rpg), assists (2nd best: 5.6apg) and averages solid 55.2% from behind 3-point line.

Second best performed player last round was Christopher Ortiz (203-F-93) of Etha. He is Puerto Rican-American forward in his first season at Etha. In the last game Ortiz recorded impressive 22 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Of course Etha cruised to a 92-83 relatively comfortable win over slightly higher-ranked Enosis (#4, 3-5). Despite this victory they still are the lowest ranked team. 6 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories Etha managed to get this year. Ortiz is a newcomer at Etha and quickly became one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to another Etha's star - forward Maxie Esho (206-F-91). Esho scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He was another key player of Etha, helping his team with a 92-83 win against slightly higher-ranked Enosis (#4, 3-5). Etha can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have extremely bad season and 2-6 record places them at the very bottom of the standings. Too bad for Esho he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Esho has individually a great season in Cyprus. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 19.3ppg (best scorer) and rebounds with 8.5rpg (2nd best). He also has FGP: 57.0% and 3PT: 45.0%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Terell Parks (204-C/F-91) of Keravnos - 14 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Kenny Barker (191-G-86) of Keravnos - 19 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists
6. Gerry Blakes (193-G) of Enosis - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Kevin Thomas (203-F-92) of Enosis - 15 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
8. Ronald Ross (188-PG-83) of Keravnos - 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Vassilis Kounas (194-G-84) of Apoel - 13 points and 2 assists
10. Baden Jaxen (190-G-90) of Etha - 16 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
