Division A Round 9: AEL Limassol lose their first game against Keravnos - Jan 8, 2017

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of AEL Limassol (8-1) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were edged by Keravnos (8-1) 46-45. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of AEL Limassol. It was a key game for the top position in the league. AEL Limassol cut a 14-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. Keravnos dominated on the defensive end, holding AEL Limassol to just 5 points in first quarter. Keravnos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They used an opportunity after AEL Limassol lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position which they share with defeated AEL Limassol. Keravnos is looking forward to face Apollon (#3) in Limassol in the next round, which may be the game of the day. AEL Limassol will play on the road against ENAD in Nicosia and is hoping to win this game.
Bottom-ranked AEK (0-9) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to fourth ranked ENAD (5-4) 90-29. ENAD moved-up to third place, which they share with Apollon. AEK at the other side still closes the standings with nine games lost. ENAD will play against league's leader AEL Limassol at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AEK will play against APOEL (#5) in Nicosia and hopes to get finally their first victory.
The game in Nicosia supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Apollon (5-4) played at the court of 5th ranked APOEL (1-8). Apollon smashed APOEL 82-41 on Sunday. Apollon maintains third place with 5-4 record having just three points less than leader AEL Limassol, which they share with ENAD. APOEL lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. Apollon will meet league's second-placed Keravnos in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. APOEL will play against AEK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

APOEL - Apollon 41-82

The game in Nicosia supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Apollon (5-4) played at the court of 5th ranked APOEL (1-8). Apollon smashed APOEL 82-41 on Sunday. The game without a history. Apollon led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding APOEL to just 7 points in first and fourth quarters. Apollon maintains third place with 5-4 record having just three points less than leader AEL Limassol, which they share with ENAD. APOEL lost seventh consecutive game. GS Kronos Agiou Dimitriou (A2) signed experienced 34-year old Cypriot guard Eleana Pantazi (177-83). It is actually her comeback to Kronos as she has played here before. Pantazi will still stay in Greece where she played last season at PAOK Thessalonikis in the A1. In 21 games she had 4.3ppg and 1.1rpg. Keravnos Strovolou (Division A) landed 31-year old Greek international guard Niki Avery (168-86, college: E.Kentucky, agency: Interperformances). She has a double citizenship as she also holds American passport. Avery played most recently at Panathinaikos in Greek A1 league.
