An interesting game for Keravnos (13-1) which hosted in Strovolos 4th ranked Enosis (6-8). First ranked Keravnos had an easy win 85-67. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Enosis. The game was mostly controlled by Keravnos. Enosis managed to win fourth quarter 29-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Enosis to just 3 points in third quarter. Keravnos dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Enosis' 26 and made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. Keravnos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American players dominated the game. point guard Ronald Ross (188-83, college: Texas Tech) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Jake O'Brien (206-89, college: Temple, agency: HMS) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guard Gerry Blakes (193, college: Arizona St.) replied with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Enosis. Keravnos have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-1 record. Enosis at the other side keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Keravnos are looking forward to face Apollon (#5) in Limassol in the next round. Enosis will play at home against the league's second-placed AEK and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for AEK (10-4) which hosted in Larnaca one of their biggest challengers Apoel (7-7). Second ranked AEK managed to get a 11-point victory 78-67. Slovenian power forward Primoz Brezec (216-79) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and Torey Thomas chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists during the contest. AEK's coach Linos Gavriel allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American guard Tre Bussey (190-91, college: Georgia South) responded with 17 points and 6 assists. Defending champion maintains second position with 10-4 record having just three points less than leader Keravnos. Apoel at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. AEK will play against Enosis (#4) in Paralimni in the next round. Apoel will play at home against Etha and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Etha managed to get a third victory, breaking the five-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they outleveled fifth-ranked Apollon in Nicosia 90-71. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 19-point difference suggests that Etha is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. Baden Jaxen notched 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) to lead the effort. Even 29 points and 4 assists by Iraklis Pittakas did not help to save the game for Apollon. Etha (3-11) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated Apollon. Apollon lost fourth consecutive game. Etha will meet higher ranked Apoel (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Apollon will play against the league's leader Keravnos and hope to secure a win.

Keravnos is the champion after many attempts... - 18 days ago
Ten years after the last championship, Keravnos Strovolou finally and after a great 'fight' against the last season's champions (and top favourite team according to available budget) AEK Larnakas, won the final series with 3-1 and won totally fair the sixth championship trophy with the last one being back in 2008. After quite many times being very close to the trophy but losing it at the very last minute, Keravnos management decided to trust in the head coaching position (after many-many...   [read more]
