Brezec's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - Feb 7, 2017

37-year old power forward Primoz Brezec (216-F/C-79) had a great game in the last round for second-ranked AEK and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 14.
He had a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, while his team beat Apoel (#3, 7-7) 78-67. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. AEK maintains the 2nd position in Cypriot league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. AEK will need more victories to improve their 10-4 record. It's Brezec's second year at AEK and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Brezec has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (4th best: 16.3ppg), rebounds (4th best: 7.6rpg) and averages solid 68.2% FGP.

Second best performed player last round was Baden Jaxen (190-G-90) of Etha. He is American guard in his first season at Etha. In the last game Jaxen recorded impressive 29 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Of course he led Etha to another comfortable win 90-71 over slightly higher-ranked Apollon (3-11) being unquestionably team leader. Despite this victory they still are the lowest ranked team. 11 lost games are too many comparing to just three victories Etha managed to get this year. Jaxen is a newcomer at Etha and quickly became one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.6ppg (#5). He also recorded 3.6 assists per game.

Third place about best performers goes to guard Iraklis Pittakas (192-G-84) of Apollon (#5). Pittakas scored 29 points and passed four assists. Despite Pittakas' great performance Apollon lost 71-90 to Etha (3-11). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Apollon can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 3-11 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Pittakas he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Pittakas has a very solid season. In 14 games in Cyprus he scored 12.8ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Gerry Blakes (193-G) of Enosis - 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Ronald Ross (188-PG-83) of Keravnos - 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists
6. Daiquan Walker (188-PG-93) of Etha - 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Tre Bussey (190-G-91) of Apoel - 17 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists
8. Torey Thomas (178-PG-85) of AEK - 10 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists
9. Kenny Barker (191-G-86) of Keravnos - 9 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Jake O'Brien (206-F-89) of Keravnos - 17 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
