Keravnos is the champion after many attempts... - May 10, 2017

Christoforos
Livadiotis
Ten years after the last championship, Keravnos Strovolou finally and after a great 'fight' against the last season's champions (and top favourite team according to available budget) AEK Larnakas, won the final series with 3-1 and won totally fair the sixth championship trophy with the last one being back in 2008.

After quite many times being very close to the trophy but losing it at the very last minute, Keravnos management decided to trust in the head coaching position (after many-many years) a local boy, a boy that actually begun his basketball career in the Strovolos courts back in 90's, so Christoforos Livadiotis agreed financial terms last season with the team of Keravnos Strovolou (initially on a 2 years contract with an option of another one).

Soon, the Keravnos Strovolou management realised that the young Strovolos born and raised Head Coach was using different tactics, solid strategy and totally different player's management than all of the previous 'big' names which the Strovolos team brought in (mostly from Greece) and never managed to be established or win any trophy.. The trust became even stronger at the end of last season, even though Keravnos lost both the Cyprus Cup and the Cyprus league anything, but the difference was obvious allover Strovolos, as Livadiotis brought some different (winning) aura in the team. Keravnos played very good basket with very good coaching but lost some crucial games at the end to finally remain without any trophy.. Keravnos's management show the needed trust to the local boy, and the local boy return this trust by winning the league (the double was lost in details and not so fair way)

It is worth mentioned that Coach Livadiotis spent only one season as a head Coach (before arriving in Strovolos, with the team of Etha Engomis), but he was for many seasons the right hand (and the 'brains' for some) of the Cyprus Head Coach Tonis Konstantinidis from the early beginning of his continuous successes, in ETHA Engomis, APOEL and even for a short time in Romania and CS Energia.
Christoforos Livadiotis , a low profile but hard working basketball lover, was able to slowly-slowly build up his name on Konstantinidis side and was the X factor on all the successes in the teams that was co-coaching, winning a number of trophies (both champions and cups) in all the teams that he have worked with Konstantinidis, no matter if (mostly) was co-coaching teams with low budgets and far and away from favorite titles as they were underdogs..
The years have passed, Coach Konstantinidis decided to proceed in a career abroad, and the then 34 years old Livadiotis, took over as a Head Coach the team of ETHA Engomis. There, he showed his job as a Head Coach, being in a team with minor budget but being able to compete nearly all the teams, teams with triple the budget
Today the 37 years old Head Coach won his first title being on top and the leading figure of the team he begun playing ball. Looking the future with even more anxious and energetic eye to win more..
His success recipe was simple, developing a team not for a season but for the years to come, so in good atmosphere, good and solid relations with his players (both local and foreigners) he build up trust and a mutual understanding, his players respecting him and he respect his players, together in the good and happy days but together in the bad and sad days, everything as a TEAM, that is why Keravnos Strovolou the last two years under the coaching of Livadiotis is giving the impression of a total team, with players knowing their roles, and working hard towards their goal with a Coach that is simply doing his job, nor dealing with the people, not dealing with the media, not dealing with the federation and not dealing with the referees, no matter if (in many cases like in the past) his team has been slaughtered by the men in gray (with last sample being the Cups final). His team was the best in the league and proved it many times as his outcome was amazing 18 wins and 2 loses in the first round and 5 wins over 1 loss in the semi finals and finals, a total of 23-3 record in the league while the one and only other defeat was in the Cup's final against AEK Larnakas.
It is worth mentioned that the budget of the Cup holder this season had nothing to do with Keravnos Strovolou and this makes the trophy even sweeter for the Strovolos management.

The roster of Keravnos Strovolou, remain nearly the same from season 2015-2016 as the only additions that Coach Livadiotis did were Mohamed Abukar and the MVP of the league, Terrell Parks who was playing for Keravnos Strovolou two seasons ago but got injured at the pre-season and lost all the season.. Coach Livadiotis, had a nice mixture of young and experienced players, locals and foreigners, and on the one hand we had the veterans Ross, Neophytou, Theocharidis and Abukar and on the other hand we had the young and anxious Parks, Simon, Markou and O' Brien, with the addition of the experience Stylianou and Barker and the youngsters (who gain some vital minutes) Orestis Andreou, Panagiotis Doukanaris, and Pavlos Stavrinides completed the awesome roster of the champions for 2016-2017, Keravnos Strovolou..

Last but not least, Keravnos Strovolou will return in the European Courts after quite many years, and this is also another challenge for Coach Livadiotis and his troops for the coming Season..

Eurobasket.com wishes all the best to the Strovolos Team
