USK Praha claim third straight ZBL title - May 2, 2013

USK Praha shot down IMOS Brno in overtime drama to clinch the third consecutive ZBL title. Rebekkah Brunson (191-F/C-81, agency: LBM Management, college: Georgetown) stepped up with 25 points and 15 rebounds to carry the visitors to the historic title. IMOS Brno entered the game on a high note after snatching a tough road win in Game 3. They tipped off the game aggressively and rallied to an 18:12 lead after ten minutes. IMOS Brno maintained the lead throughout the second quarter. The hosts posted a 31:28 advantage at the interval. The home side did not loosen the grasp in the third term. They registered a 48:44 advantage into the fourth period. But USK Praha managed to force overtime knotting things up at 64. The teams were tied at 73 midway through the extra period. But Rebekkah Brunson stepped up for the visitors making it 77:73. Kia Vaughn (193-C-87, college: Rutgers) then followed with a three-point play sealing the victory for USK Praha. Kia Vaughn chipped in 15 points, while Michaela Zrustova (186-F-87) finished with 10 points for the visitors. Nicole Ohlde (193-F/C-82, college: Kansas St.) responded with 17 points for IMOS Brno. Farhiya Abdi (188-F-92) and Tereza Peckova (189-F-87) had 13 points each for the home team.
IMOS Brno clinched the Czech Cup title. They overcame their archrivals USK Praha in the Final today. Hana Horakova (182-F/G-79) exploded with 30 points to lead the winners. USK Praha entered the game as three-time defending champions. They fired 29 points in the opening quarter to take a one-point lead. The tempo fell in the second quarter. USK Praha limited IMOS Brno to 9 points in the next period to ensure a 44:37 halftime lead. IMOS Brno however did not surrender. They cut the deficit to just four points with one quarter remaining. The Brno outfit erupted for 29 points in the fourth frame and stole a historic win at the end. Nicole Ohlde (193-F/C-82, college: Kansas St.) chipped in 12 points, while Alena Hanusova (19-C-91) chipped in 11 points for the winners. Rebekkah Brunson (191-F/C-81, agency: LBM Management, college: Georgetown) answered with 20 points and 15 boards for USK Praha. Eva Viteckova (190-F-82) and Jelena Skerovic (176-G-80, agency: Josep and Nicolas) had 13 points each in the loss.
