Looking to strengthen their frontcourt for the upcoming A1 stage of regular season play, BK Decin has announced that they have agreed to terms with former NH Ostrava star Dwight Burke (202-C/F-86, college: Marquette). Burke, 25, began this season in France with Hermine Nantes Atlantique before heading to Austria to play with Allianz Swans Gmunden for a brief stretch in January. While this season abroad has not gone as well as his first two professional seasons, the Brooklyn, New York native may have found a chance for rejuvenation with Decin. The club agreed to bring in Burke on a two week try-out basis, but if all goes hell, he would form a formidable duo with reigning MVP Pavel Houska in the frontcourt. Last season with Ostrava, Burke was named a Mattoni NBL All-Star while averaging 13.5 points, 7.6 rebounds (fifth in the league) and 1.0 assists while shooting 43.8% from the field and 36.1% from three. Burke helped Ostrava to a fifth place regular season finish, their best the last 10 years. After beginning his rookie 2009-10 season in Uruguay, Burke joined Ostrava for the second half of the NBL campaign, appearing in 16 games and averaging 12.3 points and 8.1 rebounds while shooting 50.1% from the field. With the final points of an agreement being finalized, there is still a chance that Burke will be able to suit up for tomorrow's final game of the basic stage, at home against BK JIP Pardubice. BK Decin currently sits in fourth place in the standings with a 18-7 record, one game behind third place Pardubice.
