USK Praha has finally filled the void left by the departure of Tremaine Ford as they announced the signing of second year center Randall Hanke (211-F/C-84, college: Providence) for the 2010-11 season. Hanke joins veteran guard Levell Sanders (189-G-75, college: Seton Hall) (Seton Hall) of Decin, Eugene Lawrence (184-G-86, college: St.John's) (St. John's) of Prostejov, Dwight Burke (203-F-86, college: Marquette) (Marquette) of Ostrava and former Providence Friar teammate Oritseweyinmi Efejuku (196-G-86, college: Providence) as former members of the NCAA's Big East conference who will be playing in the NBL this season.. At 6-11 (210cm), Hanke will be one of the tallest if not the tallest players in the NBL and is coming off a rookie season split between Great Britain and Spain. In seven games for the Scottish Rocks of the British BBL, Hanke averaged 9.0 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. After transferring to Spains LEB Gold division with La Laguna Canarias, he played sparingly in eight contests (1.5ppg, 1.4rpg). At Providence, competing against some of the best collegiate players in the USA, the New York native started most of his sophomore and junior seasons while serving as a reserve his final season in college. For his career he appeared in 119 games, averaging 8.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks while finishing first all-time in school history in field goal percentage at 66.8% (450-674). Granted British citizenship in 2009, Hanke prepared with Englands National Team last season but was not a member of the team during their recent European Championship qualifications. Hanke is the first import signed by Praha this upcoming season.

As reported by the Czech news outlet www.idnes.cz, BK JIP Pardubice have signed Uruguayan swingman Martin Volf (200-F-80) to a one-year contract. As reported by the Czech news outlet www.idnes.cz, BK JIP Pardubice have signed Uruguayan swingman Martin Volf (200-F-80) to a one-year contract. The 6-7 (198cm) wing has spent his entire professional career in Uruguay, but brought in for a tryout during the teams recent exhibition games against CEZ Nymburk and BBC Bayreuth, impressed club manager Pavel Stara. Against Nymburk, the 29 year old with Czech heritage and passport, tallied 11 points in an 87-83 victory over the defending Czech champions then added nine points during an 89-75 victory over Bayreuth. Volfs best statistical season came in 2007-08 when he scored 19.5 points per contests for Cader (Uruguay LUB).

Sokoup, who played for BA Sparta Praha last season and kept Plzen from winning the First Division, chose to join Plzen after Sparta decided against accepting their automatic birth to the NBL [read more]

The 28 year old forward, born in Prague, has experience in Germany with ALBA Berlins developmental team as well as stints in Poland and Cyprus in addition to hi time in the Czech Republic. This will be his first season playing extensively in the NBL as well.
