Big Changes Expected for BK Prostejov - Jun 6, 2012

Choleva
Coming off a club-best third-consecutive second place finish in the Mattoni NBL Finals, there will be a new approach and strategy for BK Prostejov. No longer able to sustain the financial burden of competing at the top of the NBL, management will look to par down the teams budget and compete at a more modest level. These changes are not completely unexpected, as there were rumors at the beginning of 2012 that the club was looking to trim back its financial investments in player contracts, but finally managed to keep the roster mostly intact for the remainder of the season.
In an interview with iDNES.cz, head coach Zbynek Choleva talked about his expectations for the club going forward and how he looks to approach the new season with a new host of players.
Clearly stated, the club will not look to bring back the American trio of Jamar Smith (191-SG-87, college: S.Indiana), Travis Peterson (208-C/F-85, college: Samford) and Yemi Gadri-Nicholson (208-C-83, college: Denver) (this trio made up the top-three scorers for the team as well as the top-two rebounders and shot-blockers) as their expected salary requests would not be possible to meet.
On possible players who will return, Choleva stated that Petr Bohacik (204-F-85), Vojtech Bratcenkov (198-F-91), Kamil Svrdlik (206-F-86, college: Fair Dickinson) and Rostislav Pelikan (207-F/C-78) seem certain, while the club is hopeful that it can retain at least one plyer from the group of Jaroslav Prasil (200-F-80), Dusan Pandula (196-F-84) or Matej Venta (187-PG-84). Also, Prostejov expects the return of guard Petr Dokoupil (191-G-88) who spent this past season on loan with Opava.
The imports for next season will have to be at a much more cost-effective salary base and fans can expect most imports to come from neighboring European countries like Slovakia, Slovenia and maybe Poland. Even with the drastic change in structure, club management has stated they would like to still fight for positioning in the A1 group and playoffs, while coach Choleva said that realistically he could see the team finishing between positions 5-7 in the standings.

Denny McDonald leaves Usti n/Labem - 11 hours ago

Canadian-Jamaica forward Denny McDonald (198) left SLUNETA Usti nad Labem (NBL). McDonald ended the last season at Windsor Express in Canadian NBL Canada. But in 7 games he recorded just 0.6ppg and 1.6rpg. McDonald helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in NBL Canada Central Division. They also advanced to the league semifinals. But the most of that year he spent at Saint John Mill Rats in NBL Canada where in 18 games he averaged only 1.7ppg. McDonald previously for...   [read more]

Ladislav Pecka claims Czech Republic NBL weekly honour - 12 hours ago

Ladislav Pecka (197-F-91) put on an amazing game in the last round for Usti n/Labem and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 2. The 25-year old forward had a double-double of 42 points and twenty rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Svitavy (#12, 0-2) with 17-point margin 97-80. The game was not the highest importance and did not have significant influence on top of the standings. Usti n/Labem is placed at 9th position in C...   [read more]
