Russia clinched the fifth straight win in the classification round Group G at U16 European Championship today. They defeated Czech Republic to clinch the top position in the ladder. Russia thus stayed in Division A for the next year. Czech Republic fell at 2-3 record and would not avoid relegation. Ilya Karpenkov (200-C-97) led the winners with 18 points and 9 rebounds. Russia enjoyed an 18:14 lead after ten minutes. They stretched the lead in the second quarter. Russia posted a 40:30 halftime lead. Czech Republic however managed to narrow the gap at 6-point mark at the final intermission. Skranc put Czech Republic within one 61:62 midway through the final frame. Czech Republic then grabbed a 67:64 lead but Ilya Karpenkov and Aleksandr Zuev (193-PG-96) capped regulation with five straight points to seal the victory for Russia. Pavel Afanasev (194-SG-96) accounted for 11 points, while Aleksandr Zuev and Mikhail Maleyko (203-PF-96) delivered 10 points each in the win. Matej Svoboda (200-PF-96) answered with 14 points for Czech Republic. Marek Mares (185-G-96) netted 10 points in the loss.
