Calvin Cage
Apparently two-months were not needed to evaluate the performance and contributions of American guard Calvin Cage (183-G-84, college: Buffalo) to BK Breda & Weinstein Opava, as the club announced that they have parted ways with Cage less than a month after his arrival. In three games with BK Breda & Weinstein Opava the former University of Buffalo star (finished as 8th leading scorer in school history after 2005-06 season) averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 5.0 turnovers while logging roughly 25 minutes per contest.

What may have been his undoing was the fact that management of BK Breda & Weinstein Opava along with head Coach Petr Czudek were looking for help at the point guard position while Jakub Sirina and Radim Klecky recovered from injury, but Cage, 28, has never been a traditional point guard as expected by BK Breda & Weinstein Opava. For his career he has proven to be a volume scorer, but not particularly efficient (9-23 2FG, 5-19 3PT for Opava), and is a "point guard" by default due to his 6-0 height and ball handling.
When the team states that the "player failed to meet expectations", in this case, it is not only the player who "failed" but also team scouting for failing to place the right player in the right situation. Unfortunately for the team, the addition of Cage did not improve their position in the standings as the club los tall three contests he played in against USK Praha, Jindrichuv Hradec and rival NH Ostrava.

Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Lee Skinner (198-92, college: Wofford) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (m...   [read more]
