Despite playing with a fractured non-shooting hand, Levharti Chomutov guard Showron Glover (180-PG-87) erupted for a game-high 30 points in an impressive 86-81 road victory over USK Praha last night. Chomutov, which improved to 4-8 on the season, built an 11-point lead heading into halftime and then withstood multiple charges by the home team to hang on for the five point victory. Praha was able to narrow the lead down to two at 78-80 on a pair of Michal Vocetka (198-F-89) free-throws, but Chomutov countered with their own pair of free-throws from Janou Rubin (193-G-82, college: UCLA) and a critical three-pointer from Ladislav Pecka (197-F-91) with :07 seconds left to secure the win. USK Praha, which falls to 6-6 on the season, were led by Stanislav Votroubek (212-C-81) who scored a team-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds. Talented International Center Martin Peterka (205-C-95) had a great game in the last round for Nymburk B and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com 1Liga Player of the Week award for round 4 (Second Stage). The 21-year old center had a double-double of 29 points and fifteen rebounds, while his team crushed Zlin (4-4) with 23-point margin 78-55. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Nymburk B is placed at 3rd position in Czech Republic 1Liga. Nymburk B is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 4th lost game this season out of 8 games. In the team's last game Peterka had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. It's his second year at Nymburk B and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Peterka has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (2nd best: 23.9ppg) and averages solid 63.9% FGP and 50.0% from behind 3-point line.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 33-year old power forward Pavel Englicky (210-F/C-83) of Sokol Pisek. Englicky impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Sokol Pisek lost that game 65-70 to the lower-ranked Prostejov B (#14, 11-11). This loss caused Sokol Pisek to drop to 3rd position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 11-12 record. Englicky is a newcomer at Sokol Pisek and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.
The third best performed player last round was Martin Klimes (203-C-83) of second-ranked Slavoj Litom.. Klimes showcased his all-around game by recording 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the last round. He was a key player of Slavoj Litom., leading his team to a 78-67 win against the lower-ranked Opava B (#5, 2-6). Slavoj Litom. needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in the standings. Their record at this point is 6 victories and 2 lost games. Klimes has a great season in Czech Republic. After 22 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 9.4rpg (4th best).
Other top performing players last week: 4. Miroslav Krajcigr (178-G-94) of Vysocina - 32 points and 4 rebounds 5. Tomas Bruha (213-C-88) of Sokol Prazky - 21 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists 6. Libor Svandrlik (202-C-90) of Sokol H.K. - 20 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Vaclav Honomichl (186-PG-92) of Loko Plzen - 20 points and 5 rebounds 8. Jiri Dihel (198-F/C-87) of Opava B - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists 9. Jakub Slavik (200-F-99) of Ostrava - 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists 10. Vojtech Novak (205-C-97) of Sokol Pisek - 19 points and 4 rebounds
The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
