NBL Round 16: NH Ostrava is defeated by BC Kolin - Dec 15, 2012

Host teams show no mercy winning all games.

The most important game in the last round took place in Kolin between second ranked NH Ostrava (13-3) and fifth ranked BC Kolin (9-7) on Saturday night. NH Ostrava was defeated by BC Kolin in a tough game on the road 81-87. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of NH Ostrava. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 87-81. BC Kolin made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by NH Ostrava helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Puerto Rican-American guard Emanuel Ubilla (188-86, college: Fair Dickinson, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and forward David Machac (205-80) who added 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. BC Kolin's coach Predrag Benacek used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American point guard Rahsaan Ames (184-78, college: Shaw) responded with 21 points and 5 assists. BC Kolin maintains fifth position with 9-7 record. NH Ostrava at the other side keeps the second place with three games lost. BC Kolin are looking forward to face bottom-ranked BK Usti nad Labem (#13) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. NH Ostrava will play against the league's leader CEZ Nymburk (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

USK Praha's coach Ken Scalabroni rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Basketbal Svitavy maintains eleventh position with 5-11 record. USK Praha lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth place with ten games lost. Basketbal Svitavy will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. USK Praha will play on the road against BK Lions Hradec (#12) in J.Hradec and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

John Fields fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Jakub Krakovic produced 17 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Levharti Chomutov moved-up to seventh place. BK Usti nad Labem lost fourth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Levharti Chomutov will meet higher ranked BK Decin (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. BK Usti nad Labem will play against BC Kolin (#5) and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 16 Levice lost to BK Pardubice on the opponent's court 74-81. BK Prostejov managed to outperform BK Decin in a home game 68-60.



Svitavy - USK Praha 97-81

An interesting game took place in Svitavy where 8th ranked USK Praha (6-10) was upset on the court of eleventh ranked Basketbal Svitavy (5-11) 97-81. It looked good early as USK Praha took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Basketbal Svitavy had a 23-16 second period charge getting the lead and USK Praha was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 81-97. They outrebounded USK Praha 50-35 including 38 on the defensive glass. USK Praha was plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by Polish center Pawel Mroz (215-84) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks and American point guard Michael Deloach (183-86, college: Norfolk St.) supported him with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Rather expected game when 7th ranked Levice (6-9) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked BK Pardubice (9-6) 81-74 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after three quarters before their 21-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. International forward Petr Bohacik (205-85) fired 23 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Lithuanian point guard Evaldas Zabas (188-88) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists. American forward Jeremy Simmons (204-89, college: Charleston, agency: Interperformances) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Willie Kemp (188-87, college: Memphis) added 12 points and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Five Levice players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. BK Pardubice maintains fourth position with 9-6 record.
