The Svendborg Rabbits Are Champs
- Apr 29, 2010
The
Svendborg Rabbits are the champions of the Canal Digital Ligaen for
the 2009-2010 season. After a three-year run, the
Bakken Bears can no longer claim the top honor. Svendborg won the
day's game 76-51, and won the series 4-1.
In a series that started off very competitively, the Rabbits were able
to steal a win in Aarhus on Monday night to take a 3-1 lead in the
series and then win the championship convincingly on their home floor in
game 5.
Many things went right for Svendborg in tonight's game, the most
important of which was their defensive scheme.
Torre Johnson (198-F-85, agency:
Hart Sports Mngm, college:
Wisc.-Milwaukee),
who was my pick for MVP of the regular season, was continually
double-teamed every time he touched the ball in the post. By doing so,
Bakken's most dangerous player was never a threat. Next to Johnson,
Darryl Proctor (193-F-86, college:
UMBC)
was never able to find a rhythm and as a result had a very bad
performance in an elimination game for his team. Aside from the two
Americans, Bakken was held to 51 points for the entire game and was
outscored 28-8 in a decisive third quarter. The fourth quarter ended up
being nothing more than a formality.
Although Johnson was my MVP for the regular season,
Johnell Smith (186-G-80, college:
New
Orleans) was the MVP of the championship series. He was able to
control the flow of the games and finished tonight's game with an
impressive 18 points, 10 rebounds and 8 steals. After a devastating loss
in last year's finals game 7, the Rabbits got their revenge and in doing
so, got their championship as well
West won All Star Game - Feb 15, 2010
West-East 123-117 (30-28, 32-27, 28-30, 27-38)
West won All Star Game 123:117 over East in the country. The latter
started with 30-28 an added 32-27 in the second period. West reduced the
gap after 30-28 in the third frame and finished the game with 38-27 to
celebrate the victory. It was a great show and allowed the specattors to
enjoy the show. The Dunk contest was won by
Edward Morris (203-F-84, college:
Pittsburg St.) who was too good for his opponents. Tomas
Rinkeviscius won 3-point contest as he shot great from the perimeter.
Naestved was a great place for such an event.
Bakken Bears grab the Cup
- Jan 11, 2010
Bakken Bears-Svendborg 84:81
Bakken Bears grab the Cup of the country as the team celebrated in the
Final last night. The Bears rolled over Svendborg 84:81 for the total
success.
It was a quick start for the winners as they ensured 16-7 advantage from
the very beginning.
Torre Johnson (198-F-85, agency:
Hart Sports Mngm, college:
Wisc.-Milwaukee)
and Andreas Jacobsen looked great for the team and held the lead with
the team. The Bears finished the first 10 minutes with 25:16 and looked
forward to keep it for good. The Bears increased to 37:26 later in the
second and kept 8-point advantage at the halftime. The teams went to the
lockers as the winners had 44:36 deficit before the second half. Nothing
serious happened for the Bears in the first five minutes of the third
frame as they enjoyed 53:45 lead, while the bears reached 69:56 after 30
minutes. Svendborg however showed their game later in the game. The
latter reduced to the minimum in the last five minutes, but could not
upset the leading team. The board showed 84:81 as the final whistle
brought the victory for the Bears.
Torre Marvelle Johnson top-scored for the winners with 25 points, while
Andreas Jacobsen added 23.
Chris Christoffersen (218-C-79, college:
Oregon) followed them with 11 points.
Johnell Smith (186-G-80, college:
New
Orleans) responded with 23 points in the losing effort. Nicolai
Iversen notched 18 and Dameon Mason scored 14 points.
