The Bakken Bears are three-peat champions of the CDL, but on Thursday, looked mortal relative to their teams in past years. This observation was amplified by the fact that they were playing against a SISU Copenhagen team that has been somewhat broken up due to the effects of the financial crisis. While Bakken seemed to just get by in the first half, it was SISU's team effort that looked impressive. Point guard Tomas Rinkevicius controlled the tempo throughout this time and was very vocal offensively. Mychal Kearse (194-G/F-83, college: Mt.St.Mary's) added to the effort by providing much-needed scoring as well as rebounding. However, SISU's solid play would not last. Midway through the third quarter is when Bakken turned up the heat and began to pull away. After making a run to close the quarter, Bakken opened the fourth quarter with a 61-52 lead. Building on their play, Bakken went on an 11-2 run to start the fourth. The Bears used their deep bench to eventually run SISU out of the gym with a 91-68 win. Randers Cimbria Basketball has been part of the best Danish League for a very long time, and it looks like the financial trouble in the club sadly is the reason why they can no longer be part of the best basketball in Denmark.
As of now it looks like the club will be relegated to the 2.div and will have to start the process of fighting their way back to the best league from the beginning of next season.
The team won the bronze medal last season, so today is a very sad day for the Cimbria organization and the players.
