Durell shout out! - Nov 29, 2011

Introduction
Whats up world? This is Durell Vinson aka Rell Vinson from Vineland, NJ ( southern New Jersey) that is. A graduate from Wagner College which is in Staten Island, New York. In my four years at Wagner we had a solid run at the league championship each year but came up short. My senior year we went 23-8 throughout the season which was the best record in school history. In 2007-2008 season I was 3rd in the nation in rebounding in Division 1 behind Michael Beasley and Jason Thompson ( also a south jersey product) which are both currently in the NBA.

Im now in my fourth year playing, now in Denmark top league for the Svendborg Rabbits. We are currently in first place with a 13-0 record. My team is now in the semi finals of the Danish cup also, which we have two upcoming games. My other three years I played in Finland's top league, which I surpass over 1000 rebounds and was top in the league in blocks last year.

In Europe your first year is always the most difficult one, getting use to a new surrounding with a new language and new way of life. But after that living over here gets much easier. You get used to the European way of life so it isnt that hard to get accustom to each country and teams ways. After the first year life just becomes a journey of experiences in different places that you play. Homesickness kicks in of course when your away from home for several months out the year, but pictures and the internet help to keep from being homesick. All my teammates in my years in Europe has spoken fairly good English so that has helped me to get settled in quite quickly. The food is also different in Europe. Salad is a big thing over here and fast food isnt big like it is back home in the states. So if you like your Taco Bells , KFC, Wendys, Popeyes and Burger King you will have to settle for McDonalds, which is the most common fast food place out here in Europe. The dollar is also not used in Europe. Some countries got their own currency but many use the Euro. My nickname for all the money in Europe is Monopoly money because all the different colors for the bill amounts.

The basketball in Europe compared to the States is different in my opinion. First, the refereeing is different, like the traveling calls and being able to hit the ball off the rim when its rolling on the cylinder. As an American you cant talk to many refs because they dont speak English that well. But overall being in Europe and playing a sport I love and the enjoyment of playing in front of different fans each year, makes me happy to wake up to my job. I give thanks to God for all the blessings me and all my fellow Americans that get the chance to further their career year in n year out has got!

Shout outs to my family, friends (My trainer Ike and the dungeon boys) Happy Holidays! Like to say Thank You Eurobasket for letting me post on your site!
