Dameligaen Round 18: SISU edges Horsholm by three points - Feb 19, 2012

The Regular Season in Dameligaen is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 3 rounds.

Second-ranked Horsholm (13-5) made lots of trouble for top-ranked SISU (18-0) in Copenhagen on Sunday. SISU managed to secure only three-point victory 68-65. However their fans expected easier game. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Horsholm. Horsholm was trailing by 6 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 25-14 charge of SISU, which allowed them to win the game. The best player for the winners was American center Stephanie Madden (185-88, college: Langston) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kiki Lund (177-83, college: Dayton) chipped in 18 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Lauren Beckley (181-91, college: Shippensburg) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Undefeated SISU have an impressive 18-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 18-0 record. Horsholm at the other side keeps the second place with five games lost. SISU are looking forward to face Horsens (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Horsholm will play against Falcon and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
Bottom-ranked Lemvig managed to get a fifth victory. This time they won against sixth-ranked Amager 82-78. It was a good game for forward Emely Hatch (-89) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds. Ivana Udovalieva contributed with 18 points and 8 assists for the winners. Swingman Catharina Jensen (183-89) replied with 25 points and 6 rebounds (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!) for Amager. Amager's coach Martin Kjaersgaard tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Lemvig (5-13) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Amager. Lemvig will play against higher ranked Aabyhoj (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Amager will play against Vaerlose and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Aabyhoj was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Vaerlose (10-8) played at the court of 5th ranked Aabyhoj (6-12). Vaerlose defeated Aabyhoj 81-69 on Sunday. Julia Houghtaling scored 39 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Vaerlose's coach Jesper Johansen used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was Maria Jespersen with 26 points. Vaerlose maintains fourth position with 10-8 record. Loser Aabyhoj keeps the fifth place with 12 games lost. Vaerlose will meet at home Amager (#7) in the next round. Aabyhoj will play against Lemvig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 18 Falcon was defeated by Horsens in a road game 71-60.



Lemvig - Amager 82-78

Bottom-ranked Lemvig managed to get a fifth victory. This time they won against sixth-ranked Amager 82-78. It looked good early as Amager took an 14-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Lemvig took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 4 points. It was a good game for forward Emely Hatch (-89) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 17 rebounds. FYR Macedonian guard Ivana Udovalieva (174-84) contributed with 18 points and 8 assists for the winners. Aabyhoj - Vaerlose 69-81

The best for the losing side was guard Maria Jespersen (179-94) with 26 points and forward Courtney Coryea (185) scored 18 points and 9 rebounds. Vaerlose maintains fourth position with 10-8 record. Loser Aabyhoj keeps the fifth place with 12 games lost. Vaerlose will meet at home Amager (#7) in the next round. Aabyhoj will play against Lemvig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Horsens - Falcon 71-60

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Falcon (4-14) was defeated on the road by third ranked Horsens (11-7) 71-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Horsens. Falcon managed to win second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Australian guard Charmaine Furgeson (176-86) scored 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American swingman Brittany Bowen (177-88, college: Butler) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Four Horsens players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Trenice Fuller (193-87, college: Hofstra) with 16 points and 8 rebounds and guard Elisabeth Hansen (176-93) scored 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Horsens maintains third position with 11-7 record having seven points less than leader SISU. Falcon lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with 14 games lost. Horsens will meet league's leader SISU in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Falcon will play against the league's second-placed Horsholm (#2) and hope to secure a win.

American Sarah DeShone put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for Lemvig, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. Dameligaen Round 8: Virum loses their first game against Amager - 4 days ago

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Virum (7-1) in Kastrup on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by fourth ranked Amager (3-3) 59-49. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Virum. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 59-49. Amager forced 21 Virum turnovers. 24-year old center Valerie Driscoll (193-C-92) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's best team Virum and receives a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7.
