Ligaen Round 6: Bakken beats Naestved in the most crucial game of the week - Oct 13, 2012

It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in Ligaen, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Naestved. Top-ranked Bakken faced 4th ranked Naestved. Guests from Aarhus (5-0) defeated host Naestved (3-2) 76-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Naestved. Naestved trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 12 after three quarters before a 24-16 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 72-76 at the end of the game. The best player for the winners was American point guard Chad Tomko (180-89, college: NC-Wilmington) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Nicolai Iversen (205-80, college: San Jose City JC) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Caleb Walker (193-89, college: Nebraska) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Undefeated Bakken have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Svendborg. Naestved at the other side keeps the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Horsens IC. Bakken's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Aarhus Aarhus BC.

Richard Delk contributed with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Vaerlose's coach Thomas Silfen allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Rob Delaney (194-89, college: Lafayette, agency: SDJ Sports) replied with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Aalborg. Vaerlose (1-3) left bottom position moving up to seventh place. It was Aalborg's fifth loss in a row. They still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Randers. Vaerlose will play against Horsholm (#8) on the road in the next round. Aalborg will play against Horsens IC in Horsens and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Aalborg - Vaerlose 77-83 OT

Vaerlose can celebrate finally their first win this season after three consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Aalborg, where they defeated Aalborg (0-5) 83-77. It looked good early as Aalborg took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vaerlose had a 19-14 second period charge getting the lead. Then Aalborg managed to tie the game at the end of regular time, but lost overtime period 9-15. They outrebounded Aalborg 52-30 including a 36-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for Icelandic Axel Karason (194-83) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Bottom-ranked Randers (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 97-90 loss to sixth ranked Aarhus BC (3-3) in Aarhus on Saturday evening. Randers were trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 26-15 charge of Aarhus BC, which allowed them to win the game. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Randers' 38. They outrebounded Randers 35-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. American swingman Randy Dezouvre (195-87, college: Iona) had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Bulgarian forward Hristo Petkov (202-85, college: Campbellsville) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Bonell Colas (205-82, college: Florida) with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and Spanish point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91) scored 18 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. Four Randers players scored in double figures. Aarhus BC maintains sixth position with 3-3 record. Newly promoted Randers still closes the standings with five games lost.
