Ligaen Round 11: Svendborg keeps a leadership position - Nov 3, 2012

Coincidentally all hosts won their games.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Svendborg as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Svendborg defeated second-ranked Bakken at home 114-100. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Svendborg. Bakken managed to win third quarter 26-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Svendborg looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward Donald Rutherford (199-F/C-87, college: Catawba) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Adama Darboe (190-86) helped adding 27 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. American point guard Chad Tomko (180-89, college: NC-Wilmington) responded with 28 points and 4 assists. Undefeated Svendborg (9-0) have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Defending champion Bakken keeps the second place with one game lost. Bakken will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Svendborg will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Vaerlose on the road.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked SISU (6-3) against fourth ranked Horsens IC (6-3) on Thursday night. Visiting SISU was defeated by Horsens IC in Horsens 95-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of SISU. It was an exceptional evening for international guard Darko Jukic (198-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. Keane Thomann accounted for 29 points and 6 rebounds. American swingman Mickey Dennis (190-78, college: JMU) came up with 16 points and 4 assists for SISU in the defeat. Horsens IC moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated SISU. Horsens IC will play against Randers (#7) on the road in the next round. SISU will play against Naestved (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Second ranked Bakken (9-1) crushed at home 7th ranked Horsholm (3-7) by 28 points 95-67, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. The best player for the winners was Andreas Jakobsen who scored 19 points and 6 assists. Casper Hesseldal produced 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains second place with 9-1 record having just -1 point less than leader Svendborg. Horsholm at the other side dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 11 Vaerlose lost to Randers on the opponent's court 80-95.


Bakken - Horsholm 95-67

Second ranked Bakken (9-1) crushed at home 7th ranked Horsholm (3-7) by 28 points 95-67, which is the biggest margin this round on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Bakken. Horsholm managed to win fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bakken looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Andreas Jakobsen (187-83, college: Columbia, MO) who scored 19 points and 6 assists. American point guard Chad Tomko (180-89, college: NC-Wilmington) chipped in 17 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Tomko is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Bakken players scored in double figures. The former international forward Casper Hesseldal (198-85, college: Dickinson St., agency: Dynamics Global Management) produced 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Zarko Jukic (200-93) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Randers - Vaerlose 95-80

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Vaerlose's (1-8) road loss to eighth ranked Randers (3-6) 80-95 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Randers. Vaerlose managed to win third quarter 22-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Randers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Randers made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was American forward Bonell Colas (205-82, college: Florida) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Forward Damian Ocana (198-86) chipped in 24 points. Five Randers players scored in double figures. American guard Richard Delk (193-86, college: Troy) produced 26 points and guard Peter Moller (190-94) added 9 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Randers moved-up to seventh place. Vaerlose lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the ninth position with eight games lost. Randers will meet at home higher ranked Horsens IC (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Vaerlose will play against the league's leader Svendborg (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.

Horsens IC - SISU 95-83

Very important is a road loss of third ranked SISU (6-3) against fourth ranked Horsens IC (6-3) on Thursday night. Visiting SISU was defeated by Horsens IC in Horsens 95-83. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Horsens IC dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to SISU's 38. They outrebounded SISU 39-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for international guard Darko Jukic (198-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. American center Keane Thomann (211-89, college: Missouri So.) accounted for 29 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. The Ligaen champions Bakken Bears will have a new head coach next season. Steffen Wich has opted not to prolong his contract with the Bears and Bakken found the new name for the team.
