During the Christmas break several Danish teams have made adjustments to their team.
The biggest news come from bottom-ranked Aalborg Vikings. Their two American imports Rob Delaney (194-G-89, agency: SDJ Sports, college: Lafayette) and Ryan Willen (204-F/C-89, college: Lafayette) both left the team with season-ending injuries. Two new players have been brought in while experienced Serbian center Milan Bjegovic (211-C-81) has also joined the team (http://www.eurobasket.com/Denmark/basketball.asp?NewsID=300560) At the point guard position Luis Guzman (193-G-87, college: Temple) will replace Rob Delaney. Luis Luis Guzman played collegiately for Temple and had 3 straight NCAA tournament appearances. Luis Guzman finished his senior season in the 09-10 season averaging 4.9 ppg and 3.9 apg. Luis Guzman then played 5 games in the Slovakian Extraliga averaging 15.3 ppg and 4.0 apg before getting injured. Luis Guzman then played one and a half season in the Dominican Rep. League. Luis Guzman is a former Dominican Republic National Team player and a two-time Dominican Republic LNB Champion.
The final addition to the Aalborg Vikings team is the 208 cm tall shooting forward Anthony Jones (208-F-89, college: Baylor). Playing four seasons and 129 games for the University of Baylor the 23 year old Anthony Jones was a two-time Big 12 Tournament Finalist and a two-time NCAA Elite Eight participant. In his Junior season Anthony Jones played 29.8 minutes per game and averaged 8.5 ppg and 5.3 rpg shooting FGP: 51.7% and 3PT: 39.4%. In his Senior season in 11-12 Anthony Jones' minutes dropped to 14.6 but he still averaged 5.2 ppg and 2.9 rpg shooting FGP: 56.4% and 3PT: 35.5%. Anthony Jones then signed a contract to play for Atomeromu SE Paks in the Hungarian A Division but left the team before playing a game.
The defending champions of Danish basketball Bakken Bears have also made a couple of changes. The German Head coach of Bakken BearsPhilip Dejworek has been replaced. Bakken Bears is currently number 2 in the standings and will participate in the Danish Cup Finals in January. Philip Dejworek was in the middle of his third season in Denmark. During his stay in Denmark Dejworek coached 106 games and managed to win a total of 95 of these. Dejworek was a two-time Danish League Champion, Danish Cup Winner (2011) and was also voted two-time Eurobasket.com All-Danish Basketliga Coach of the Year.
His replacement will be one of the most experienced and winningest Danish coaches Steffen Wich who has coached the Bakken Bears team for several years winning several titles.
At the guard position Charles Parker (193-G-85, college: Millersville) has joined the team. The 27 year old guard played collegiately for Millersville (NCAA2) and in his Senior season (07-08) made it to the NCAA D2 Sweet 16 and was elected All-PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year. Charles Parker played in the D-league and EBA until joining Icelandic team Keflavik. Playing in the Icelandic-Express League Parker averaged 19.6 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 4.0 apg and 2.2 spg and was an Icelandic Lengjan Cup Finalist in which game he also was voted MVP.
At the Forward position 25 year old Canadian Marvell Waithe (205-F-87) becomes the newest member of the Bakken Bears team. Marvell Waithe played two seasons of NCAA basketball for the University of Arkanas playing 53 games. In his senior season Waithe averaged 4.7 ppg and 3.2 rpg. This will be Waithes first season playing overseas.
At Aarhus BC a coaching change has taken place. Icelandic coach Arnar Gudjonsson and assistant coach Allan Foss (former National team coach) has been replaced by former Danish National team coach Peter Hoffman . Peter Hoffman has a Danish and American passport and has severeal years of both playing and coaching experience in Denmark. As a player he won the National championship in 1998 and as a coach he won it in 2006. Peter Hoffman has also coached the Danish National Under 18 and Under 20 team and he managed to win the European Championships Div.C in Malta back in 2010. With 5 wins and 11 losses Aarhus BC is currently number 7 in the standings.
At Vaerlose BBK three experienced players will be joining the team but it is still unknown what role if any the three players will have on the team as no official statement has been made. One of the better scoring guards in the Danish league last season Mads Rasmussen (191-F-86) had announced his retirement from basketball but now it seems he is trying a comeback. Mads Vaegter Rasmussen was the most scoring Danish player in the 11-12 season averaging 18.8 ppg (8th best in Ligaen) and also had 2.5 rpg and 2.4 apg. Kristian Norsgaard (190-G-79) will also be attempting yet another comeback. The 33 year old guard finished last season at Falcon playing 12 games scoring 5.2 ppg. Also former international Forward Thomas Soltau (210-F-82, agency: Court Side, college: Northwestern) can be found on the Vaerlose BBK team card. Thomas Soltau was last seen playing in the Danish Ligaen in the 10-11 season playing 16 games averaging Score-1 (22.8ppg), 8.8rpg, FGP-2 (62.2%), 3PT: 34.0%, FT: 80.4%. What appeared to be a career-ending injury had him leave his team SISU Copenhagen in December 2010 but now two years later Thomas Soltau is attempting a comeback.
At Horsholm 79ers former Danish U20 national team player Alexander Bak (193-F-91) has returned to the team after having tried his luck in USA. 1991-born Alexander Bak is considered one of the better young Danish guards in the Danish Ligaen and had a lot of success individually averaging 14.6ppg, 2.9rpg and 2.4apg. His 14.6 ppg was 6th best amongst Danish Players. Horsholm 79ers has 4 wins and 11 losses giving them a playoff berth with the 8th place in the league.
Randers Cimbria Basketball (Ligaen) inked American forward Yasin Vernaza (200, college: Holy Names). He played most recently at Aalborg Vikings (1st Division). In 25 Ligaen games he had 6.2ppg and 3.0rpg last season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. Hertz was selected to Danish League All-Star Game back in 2012 at his college time.
