Ligaen Round 21: Randers beat Svendborg by three after a very close game - Feb 3, 2017

The most exciting game of round 21 in the Ligaen took place in Svendborg. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 3rd placed Svendborg (11-9) to sixth ranked Randers (9-12) 80-77 on Wednesday evening. The guests trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 3 points. 25 personal fouls committed by Svendborg helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Nigerian-American guard Deuce Bello (193-92, college: E.Tenn.St.) who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 6 rebounds. American-Belizean point guard Charles Burgess (186-84, college: Texas Tech) contributed with 17 points and 4 assists for the winners. American point guard Stefan Bonneau (177-87, college: LIU Post) answered with 27 points for Svendborg. Svendborg's coach Arnar Gudjonsson tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Randers maintains sixth place with 9-12 record. Svendborg at the other side keeps the third position with nine games lost. Randers are looking forward to face league's second-placed Bakken in Aarhus in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Svendborg will play on the road against Naestved and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game for Horsens IC (17-2) which hosted in Horsens second-best Bakken (13-3). First ranked Horsens IC managed to get a 5-point victory 74-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bakken. International guard Gabriel Lundberg (193-94) stepped up and scored 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Lawrence Alexander chipped in 19 points. The best for the losing side was American-Trinidad and Tobago guard Devaughn Akoon-Purcell (196-93, college: Illinois St.) with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Bakken's coach Jakob Freil let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Horsens IC have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-2 record. Bakken at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Horsens IC will play against bottom-ranked Stevnsgade (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bakken will play against Randers (#6) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Stevnsgade is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 18th consecutive match to third ranked Svendborg (11-9) 106-84 on Friday evening. American players dominated the game. Darious Moten nailed 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Svendborg's coach Arnar Gudjonsson felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Davie Champagnie came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for Stevnsgade in the defeat. Svendborg maintains third place with 11-9 record having five points less than leader Horsens IC. Loser Stevnsgade still closes the standings. Svendborg will meet Naestved (#4) on the road in the next round. Stevnsgade will play against the league's leader Horsens IC (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Naestved at the other side keeps the fourth position with nine games lost. Horsholm's next round opponent will be SISU (#7) in Copenhagen. Naestved will play at home against Svendborg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Horsens IC - Bakken 74-69

An interesting game for Horsens IC (17-2) which hosted in Horsens second-best Bakken (13-3). First ranked Horsens IC managed to get a 5-point victory 74-69. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bakken. Bakken was tied at the half but could not keep up in last two quarters eventually losing the game. Horsens IC made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. International guard Gabriel Lundberg (193-94) stepped up and scored 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and American guard Lawrence Alexander (190-91, college: N.Dakota St.) chipped in 19 points. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Naestved. Naestved was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 23-9 third quarter run of Horsholm. They made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American Jyles Smith (209-92, college: Savannah St.) who scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. The former international point guard Frederik Nielsen (178-88) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Deon Mitchell (186-93, college: N.Iowa) who recorded 24 points and 5 steals and Senegalese power forward Cheikh Sane (207-92, college: Marshall, agency: Octagon Europe) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Stevnsgade - Svendborg 84-106

Bottom-ranked Stevnsgade is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 18th consecutive match to third ranked Svendborg (11-9) 106-84 on Friday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Svendborg. Stevnsgade managed to win third quarter 30-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Svendborg shot 60.9 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 57.7 percentage. American players dominated the game. Forward Darious Moten (199-92, college: Mercer) nailed 19 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and guard Cameron Jones (193-93, college: Radford) accounted for 24 points and 5 rebounds.
