Estonia wins thriller to remain undefeated at the U18 European Championship in Division B. The team grabbed valuable 67:65 win over Slovak Republic for 3-0 record on top of Group B. The latter meanwhile fell at 0-3 record.
It was a slow start in the game as the teams scored only 21 points in the first 10 minutes. Slovakia had 11:10 and then Hendrik Ruut (190-PG-94) gave Estonia 14:13 advantage early in the second. Georg Tambre (194-PF-94) closed the half at 33:24 as Estonia won the frame 23-13. Slovakia also scored 13 points in the third period, but it was enough to tie the margin only for the period. Kent Vene (192-SG-94) brought 48:40 early in the fourth, while Hendrik Ruut and Sander Saare (182-PG-94) ensured the latest baskets for the winners.
Sander Saare and Kent Vene top-scored for the winners with 14 points each for a perfect record. Hendrik Ruut nailed 13, while Georg Tambre added 12. Vladimir Brodziansky (206-PF-94) and Martin Matejcik (185-G-94) replied with 19 points each in the losing effort. Vladimir Nemcok (183-PG-95) had 12, while Robert Rozim (199-F-94) collected 8 points and 12 rebounds.

Defending champion BC Kalev/Cramo Tallinn (Alexela KML) inked 30-year old Bulgarian ex-international power forward Cedric Simmons (206-107kg-86, college: North Carolina State). He has a double citizenship as he also holds American passport. Simmons already started the season at Buducnost in Montenegrin Erste Liga. Dutch Thomas van der Mars (208-C-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's second-best Rapla and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8. The 26-year old center had a double-double of 17 points and twenty four rebounds, while his team beat Parnu (#7, 3-5) 75-62. Rapla is placed at 2nd position in Estonian Alexela KML. TLU/Kalev can celebrate finally their first win this season after six consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Tallinn, where they outplayed Noorteliiga (0-6) 87-62 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by TLU/Kalev. Noorteliiga managed to win fourth quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening.
