Viive Kai Rebane's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Estonians playing currently abroad - Dec 12, 2012

We bring you last week's top performances from Estonians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international forward Viive Kai Rebane (182-89, college: Binghamton, currently plays in Latvia). She led Eclex Tallinn to a victory over the closely-ranked TTT Riga (8-2) 75-69 in the Latvian LSBL in Sunday night's game. Rebane was MVP of the game. She had a double-double by scoring 26 points and getting 15 rebounds. Rebane also added and 3 steals (made all of her ten free throws !!!) in 28 minutes on the court; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her first season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Eclex Tallinn (10-1) is placed first in the LSBL. The Regular Season already ended. Rebane is currently ninth on the league's list of top scorers with 16.1ppg. She also averaged so far 6.7rpg, 2.0apg, 2.4spg, 2FGP: 52.0% and FT: 87.2% in the nine games she played so far. Rebane is currently a member of the Estonian senior national team.

Merike Anderson

   #2. Second place goes to an international swingman Merike Anderson (180-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria), who plays in the Bulgarian NBL. She could not help one of league's weakest teams Dunav 8806 (7-2) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Anderson's very good performance Dunav 8806 was defeated 81-77 at home by the leading Neftochimic. She was the second best scorer with 20 points. Anderson also added 7 rebounds and 4 assists. It's Anderson's first season with the team. Anderson is ranked third on the list of the best passers in the league. She has individually a very good season with high stats. Anderson averages: 15.7ppg, 4.1rpg, 3.9apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 55.6%(45-81), 3FGP: 27.3% and FT: 70.2%. She is in the roster of the Estonian senior national team.

Annika Koster

   #3. The Estonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Annika Koster (185-92, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Koster was the main contributor in a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the sixth-ranked TTT Juniores (5-6) crushing them 85-65. She was the best player in that game. Koster scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 32 minutes. Eclex Tallinn (10-1) is placed first in the LSBL. Koster belongs to league's best rebounders (ranked #7) and also on the list of most steals (first place). She has very reliable stats this year: 13.0ppg, 8.9rpg, 2.5apg, 3.6spg, 2FGP: 52.9% and FT: 76.7% in the 11 games. Koster is also a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #4. Guard Mirjam Nikolai (177-86, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Annika Koster (above) in the other team. Nikolai was the major contributor in a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the sixth-ranked TTT Juniores (5-6) crushing them 85-65. She scored 18 points and had 3 steals. Nikolai has relatively good stats this season: 14.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.0apg and 1.7spg. She is also Estonian national team player.

International power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Mesila-Kaarmann contributed to a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the closely-ranked TTT Riga (8-2) 75-69. She recorded 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists in 26 minutes. This year Mesila-Kaarmann has relatively solid stats: 13.6ppg, 4.1rpg, 1.1bpg and 1.1spg in the 11 games. She plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #6. Guard Heila Rosenfeldt (173-83, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Mirjam Nikolai (above) in the other team. Rosenfeldt helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the sixth-ranked TTT Juniores (5-6) crushing them 85-65. She scored 11 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Rosenfeldt is currently fifth on the league's list of best passers. Her overall stats this season are: 9.7ppg, 3.9rpg, 3.5apg and 1.3spg. Rosenfeldt is international player as she played for the Estonian senior team one years ago.

   #7. International guard Pirgit Puu (168-88, currently plays in Latvia) helped KK Tallinna Ulikool win their game against the closely-ranked Latvijas Universitate (3-7) crushing them 100-65 in the Latvian LSBL in Saturday night's game. She was the top player that evening. Puu scored 24 points, had 4 rebounds and dished 5 assists (went 5 for 5 at the free throw line) in 37 minutes. KK Tallinna Ulikool (4-5) is placed seventh in the LSBL. Her team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Puu belongs to league's top scorers (ranked #4) and also on the list of best passers (seventh place). She has very impressive stats this year: 18.1ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.1apg and 2.9spg in the seven games. Puu used to play for the Estonian national team last year.

   #8. Forward Kerttu Jallai (180-90, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Pirgit Puu and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Jallai helped KK Tallinna Ulikool win their game against the closely-ranked Latvijas Universitate (3-7) crushing them 100-65. She scored 22 points, had 9 rebounds and made 5 blocks. This season Jallai has very high stats. She averages: 18.7ppg, 8.3rpg, 2.3apg, 3.0bpg and 1.7spg. Jallai plays currently for the Estonian national team.

International forward Kerli Haas (180-90, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL was not able to help one of league's weakest teams one of league's weakest teams Rapla KK (1-9) in their last game. Despite her very good performance Rapla KK lost 58-66 on their home court in Rapla to the higher-ranked (#10) Latvijas Universitate. Haas was the top scorer with 29 points. She also added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and made 3 blocks in 40 minutes. It was Rapla KK's sixth consecutive loss in a row. Haas' team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Haas is currently second on the league's list of top scorers with 18.4ppg. This year her other stats are: 7.1rpg, 2.3apg and 1.1spg in the 10 games. Haas used to play for the Estonian national team last year.

   #10. Center Valeria Kast (201-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: N.Mexico, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Pirgit Puu. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Kerttu Jallai (above) in the other team. Kast helped KK Tallinna Ulikool win their game against the closely-ranked Latvijas Universitate (3-7) crushing them 100-65. She scored 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds; not bad, considering it's only Kast's third season in pro basketball. Kast has reliable stats this year: 14.7ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.5apg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Estonian National Team roster.

   #11. U20 international point guard Anastassia Ptitsona (168-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Heila Rosenfeldt (above) in the other team. Ptitsona helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the sixth-ranked TTT Juniores crushing them 85-65. She scored 8 points and added 5 passes in 25 minutes. This year Ptitsona's overall stats are: 7.3ppg, 2.6rpg, 3.1apg and 1.8spg in the 11 games. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team last year.

   #12. International forward Kerdu Arbet-Lenear (184-80, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Anastassia Ptitsona (above) in the other team. Arbet-Lenear helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the sixth-ranked TTT Juniores crushing them 85-65. She scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Arbet-Lenear's total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 2.3rpg. She used to play for the Estonian national team last year.

   #13. International guard Jana Rannaveski (172-87, currently plays in Belarus) helped Olimpia GrGAU win their game against one of league's weakest teams Victoria-UOR crushing them 101-55 in a derby game in the Belarusian Premier League in Wednesday night's game. Rannaveski scored 11 points, made 4 passes and 3 steals in 26 minutes. Rannaveski is currently sixth on the list of best passers with 3.0apg. She also averaged so far 8.3ppg, 2.0rpg and 1.3spg in the six games. Rannaveski is also Estonian national team player.

   #14. U18 international forward Nele Laurimaa (178-93, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Pirgit Puu. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Valeria Kast (above) in the other team. Laurimaa helped KK Tallinna Ulikool win their game against the closely-ranked Latvijas Universitate crushing them 100-65. She scored 17 points and had 3 steals. Laurimaa's total stats this season are: 7.8ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.1apg and 1.6spg. She used to play for the Estonian U18 national team last year.

   #15. U20 international guard Marit Maaring (178-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Viive Kai Rebane. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (above) in the other team. Maaring helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against the closely-ranked TTT Riga 75-69. She recorded 7 points in 30 minutes. This year Maaring's total stats are: 7.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.4apg and 2.1spg in the 11 games. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team last year.


The list of other players, who all have Estonian passport but never been selected to any of Estonian national teams:

   #1. Kaiti Vasiljeva (177-G-87, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-9) in their last game. Despite Vasiljeva's good performance the bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite lost 49-59 on the road to the higher-ranked (#9) Kolibri/U-16. She was the top scorer with 12 points. Vasiljeva also added 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 29 minutes. So far BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite lost all nine games in the Regular Season. Her team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical. Vasiljeva has averaged so far 5.4ppg, 1.8rpg, 1.3apg and 1.9spg in the nine games she played so far.

   #2. Sade Ereli (175-G-94, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaiti Vasiljeva and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Ereli was not able to help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-9) in their game against Kolibri/U-16 (3-6). She recorded 5 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was defeated 59-49 in Riga by the higher-ranked Kolibri/U-16 (#9). Ereli has averaged so far 4.0ppg and 5.2rpg.

   #3. Kadri Uigra (183-F-97, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaiti Vasiljeva. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Sade Ereli (above) in the other team. Uigra was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-9) in their game against Kolibri/U-16 (3-6). She cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. Uigra recorded only 2 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks in 19 minutes. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite lost 49-59 in Riga to the higher-ranked (#9) Kolibri/U-16. Uigra has averaged so far 6.4ppg and 5.6rpg in the nine games.

   #4. Experienced Piret Hallik-Sass (175-F-67, currently plays in Latvia) couldn't help the league outsider one of league's weakest teams Rapla KK (1-9) in their game against Latvijas Universitate (3-7) in the Latvian LSBL. She cannot count Sunday's game as one of the best ones. Hallik-Sass recorded only 2 points. Rapla KK was defeated 66-58 at home by the higher-ranked Latvijas Universitate (#10). It was Rapla KK's sixth consecutive loss in a row. Her team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial. Hallik-Sass has averaged so far 2.1ppg and 3.1rpg.

   #5. Sheila Kodanik (180-F-80, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaiti Vasiljeva. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Kadri Uigra (above) in the other team. Kodanik couldn't help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-9) in their game against Kolibri/U-16 (3-6). She cannot count Tuesday's game as one of the best ones. Kodanik recorded only 3 points in 4 minutes on the court. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite lost 49-59 in Riga to the higher-ranked (#9) Kolibri/U-16. Kodanik has been at the team for five years. She has averaged so far 4.1ppg and 2.2rpg in the nine games.

Audentense SK celebrated the NKL title. They rallied past BC Vars 71:57 in the Final. Viive Kai Rebane (183-F-89, college: Binghamton) and Kati Rausberg (173-G-89, college: Eckerd) posted 16 points each for the winners. Audentese jumped to a 17:15 lead ten minutes into the game. Audentese SK - Rapla KK 62-38 Audentese SK cruised past Rapla to reach NKL title game. The game without a history. Audentese SK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rapla KK to just 5 points in second quarter.
