KML Round 11: BC Rakvere keeps a leadership position - Dec 28, 2012

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked BC Rakvere as it allowed them to take a leadership position. BC Rakvere smashed 8th ranked Tln Kalev at home 103-82. The game was mostly controlled by BC Rakvere. Tln Kalev managed to win second period 28-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. BC Rakvere shot 64.1 percent from the field. Strangely Tln Kalev outrebounded BC Rakvere 37-23 including a 18-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 59.1 percentage. BC Rakvere looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Brandis Raley-Ross (188-G-87, college: S.Carolina) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). The former international point guard Reimo Tamm (185-84) helped adding 17 points and 11 assists. Nigerian-American forward Ike Okoye (206, college: Boise St.) responded with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Tln Kalev's coach Kalle Klandorf gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. BC Rakvere (12-4) have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Tln Kalev at the other side keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game in Valga was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked KK Parnu (5-8) played at the court of seventh ranked Valga (6-7). Valga defeated KK Parnu 73-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of KK Parnu. It was an exceptional evening for Latvian guard Edgars Cunda (195-84) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 5 assists. Raitis Grafs accounted for 13 points and 10 rebounds. Lithuanian forward Osvaldas Matulionis (200-91) came up with 18 points and 8 rebounds for KK Parnu in the defeat. Valga moved-up to sixth place. KK Parnu at the other side dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last two games of round 11 Rapla won against TTU on the opponent's court 87-74. Parnu managed to outperform Tln Kalev in a home game 93-75.


Valga - Parnu 73-63

The game in Valga was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked KK Parnu (5-8) played at the court of seventh ranked Valga (6-7). Valga defeated KK Parnu 73-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of KK Parnu. KK Parnu was ahead by 4 points at the halftime before a 39-25 second half run of Valga. It was an exceptional evening for Latvian guard Edgars Cunda (195-84) who led the winners and scored 16 points and 5 assists. TTU - Rapla 74-87

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Tallinn where 4th placed TTU (6-6) was defeated by fifth ranked Rapla (6-6) 87-74. The game was mostly controlled by Rapla. TTU was better in second period 20-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rapla forced 23 TTU turnovers. TTU was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for forward Illimar Pilk (195-88) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Martin Paasoja (190-93) accounted for 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Five Rapla players scored in double figures. Rapla's coach Indrek Ruut allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American center Andrew Arnold (208-86, college: Lewis-Clark St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and international forward Erik Keedus (198-90) added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for TTU in the defeat. Rapla moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated TTU. Rapla will play against higher ranked Kalev/Cramo (#3) in Tallinn in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. TTU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tallinn Kalev/Cramo.

Rather predictable result when sixth ranked KK Parnu (5-8) defeated at home 8th ranked Tln Kalev (3-11) 93-75. The game was mostly controlled by KK Parnu. Tln Kalev was better in third quarter 25-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. KK Parnu players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Tln Kalev's players. Tln Kalev was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Lithuanian guard Augustas Peciukevicius (192-91) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Guard Kristjan Evart (190-90) accounted for 21 points for the winning side. Four KK Parnu players scored in double figures. Nigerian-American forward Ike Okoye (206, college: Boise St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds and American-Italian guard Marc Campbell (180-86, college: N.Carolina) added 23 points and 6 assists respectively for Tln Kalev in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Despite that victory KK Parnu went down to seventh position due to points difference. Tln Kalev at the other side keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Tadamon Zouk (Pepsi LBL) tabbed 25-year old American forward Maurice Kemp (203-91, college: E.Carolina, agency: Duran International). He played most recently at AVIS Rapla in Estonian Alexela KML. Kemp managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). In 18 Alexela KML games he was third best scorer with impressive 18.6ppg and recorded 8.9rpg (#4 in the league), 1.5apg, 1.4spg and 1.2bpg. Quesos Cerrato de Palencia (LEB Gold) added to their roster 19-year old Estonian small forward Robert Valge (192-82kg-97). He has played for the last four seasons at Parnu Sadam in Estonian Alexela KML. In 33 games he recorded 10.0ppg, 1.9rpg and 1.3apg last season.
