Maris Laksa claims Estonian KML weekly honour - Dec 31, 2012

Experienced Latvian Maris Laksa (205-F-81) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's leader Tarvas and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 12.
The 31-year old forward had the game-high 20 points adding three rebounds for Tarvas in his team's victory, helping them to crush Hito/Johvi (#9, 1-12) with 24-point margin 91-67. It allowed Tarvas to consolidate first place in the Estonian KML. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Tarvas has a very solid 13-4 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Laksa had a remarkable 85.7% from 2-point range. He turned to be Tarvas' top player in his first season with the team. Providence College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Laksa is league's best scorer averaging so far 17.1ppg. Laksa is in league's top in and averages solid 55.9% FGP and 42.0% from behind 3-point line.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young point guard Sander Saare (182-PG-94) of Hito/Johvi. Saare impressed basketball fans with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Hito/Johvi lost that game 67-91 to the higher-ranked Tarvas (#1, 13-4). Hito/Johvi are still at the very bottom. 12 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Hito/Johvi managed to get this year. Saare is well-known by Hito/Johvi fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players.

The third best performed player last round was Senegalese Bamba Fall (217-C-86) of Kalev/Cramo (#3). Fall scored 14 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Kalev/Cramo, leading his team to a 78-69 win against the lower-ranked TTU (#6, 6-7). Kalev/Cramo needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 8 victories and 5 lost games. Fall has a very solid season. In 6 games in Estonia he scored 9.0ppg. He also has 8.2rpg, 1.5bpg and FGP: 58.3%.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Renato Lindmets (200-F-84) of Tarvas - 16 points and 10 rebounds
5. Gary Wilkinson (205-F/C-82) of Kalev/Cramo - 19 points and 9 rebounds
6. Andre Parn (202-F-77) of Rapla - 14 points and 4 rebounds
7. Keith McLeod (190-PG-79) of Kalev/Cramo - 7 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists
8. Kaido Saks (205-F-86) of Tarvas - 17 points and 5 rebounds
9. Gary Wilkinson (205-F/C-82) of Kalev/Cramo - 15 points and 6 rebounds
10. Martin Paasoja (190-G-93) of Rapla - 14 points and 6 rebounds

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
