Mirjam Nikolai's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Estonians playing currently abroad - Jan 30, 2013

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Estonian players, who play currently abroad.


Mirjam Nikolai

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Mirjam Nikolai (177-86, currently plays in Baltic League). She led her Latvian team Eclex Tallinn to a victory over the league outsider Victoria-UOR (1-7) crushing them 96-76 in the Baltic League in Tuesday night's game. Nikolai was MVP of the game. She had a double-double by scoring 25 points and getting 12 rebounds. Nikolai also added and 6 steals in 35 minutes on the court. Eclex Tallinn (4-4) is placed third in the Baltic League. The Regular Season already ended in the Baltic League. It's Nikolai's first season with the team. Nikolai belongs to league's top scorers (ranked #4) and also on the list of most steals (fourth place). She has very reliable stats this year: 14.7ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.7apg, 2.1spg, 2FGP: 47.2%, 3FGP: 41.7% and FT: 88.6% in the seven games she played so far. Nikolai is currently a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Mesila-Kaarmann was the main contributor in a Eclex Tallinn's victory against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-12) crushing them 78-30. She was the best player in that game. Mesila-Kaarmann scored 24 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Eclex Tallinn (12-2) is placed third in the LSBL. Mesila-Kaarmann has relatively good stats this season: 14.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 2FGP: 54.0% and FT: 64.3%. She is in the roster of the Estonian senior national team.

   #3. The Estonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international power forward Annika Koster (185-92, currently plays in Baltic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. However that was another game of her team in Baltic League which brought her to that list. Koster contributed to a Eclex Tallinn's victory against one of league's weakest teams Berezina-RCOR (2-6) 66-59. She was the top player that evening. Koster had a double-double by scoring 20 points and getting 11 rebounds in 36 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Eclex Tallinn (4-4) is placed third in the Baltic League. Koster is currently sixth on the list of best rebounders and also on the list of most steals (fifth place). This year she averages: 10.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 43.3% and FT: 73.3% in the eight games. Koster is also a member of the Estonian senior national team.

Swingman Merike Anderson (180-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria) helped Dunav 8806 win their game against the closely-ranked Levski (9-8) crushing them 84-63 in the Bulgarian NBL in Wednesday night's game. She scored 18 points, made 3 passes and 3 steals. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Dunav 8806 Ruse (12-4) is placed second in the NBL. Anderson is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers. She has individually a very good season with high stats. Anderson averages: 15.3ppg, 3.8rpg, 3.8apg and 1.7spg. She is also Estonian national team player.

   #5. U18 international forward Kadri-Ann Lass (175-96, currently plays in Baltic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai and both played together in the last Baltic League game. Lass was the major contributor in a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the league outsider Victoria-UOR (1-7) crushing them 96-76. She scored 16 points, had 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 24 minutes. This year Lass' overall stats are: 4.8ppg and 2.2rpg in the five games. She plays currently for the Estonian U18 national team.

   #6. Point guard Anastassia Ptitsona (168-91, currently plays in Baltic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Baltic League game facing Kadri-Ann Lass (above) in the other team. Ptitsona helped her Latvian team Eclex Tallinn win their game against the league outsider Victoria-UOR (1-7) crushing them 96-76. She scored 15 points and added 4 passes. Ptitsona is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's her fifth year in Eclex Tallinn's roster. Ptitsona is ranked sixth on the list of the best passers in the league. Her total stats this season are: 8.5ppg, 3.4rpg and 2.1apg. Ptitsona is a former U20 international player as she played for the Estonian team two years ago.

Rosenfeldt helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-12) crushing them 78-30. She scored 8 points, grabbed 4 boards, passed 5 assists and added 4 steals in 18 minutes. Rosenfeldt is ranked fourth on the list of the best passers in the league with 3.7apg. She also averaged so far 9.3ppg, 3.8rpg and 1.6spg in the 12 games. Rosenfeldt used to play for the Estonian national team two years ago.

   #8. Guard Marit Maaring (178-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Heila Rosenfeldt (above) in the other team. Maaring helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-12) crushing them 78-30. She scored 7 points and added 6 assists. Maaring's total stats this season are: 7.2ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.5apg and 1.9spg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

Kasemagi helped her Latvian team Eclex Tallinn win their game against one of league's weakest teams Berezina-RCOR (2-6) 66-59. She scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 20 minutes. This year Kasemagi's total stats are: 2.4ppg and 3.4rpg in the five games. She is also in the roster of the Estonian U18 national team.

Forward Viive Kai Rebane (182-89, college: Binghamton, currently plays in Bulgaria) managed to help Neftochimic 2010 Burgas to win against the fifth-ranked Montana 2003 (6-10) 76-70 in the Bulgarian NBL in Wednesday night's game. Rebane scored only 4 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Neftochimic 2010 Burgas (16-0) is placed first in the NBL. So far her team won all sixteen games in the Regular Season. Rebane has averaged so far 6.5ppg and 6.0rpg. She is an international player who is currently on the senior Estonian National Team roster.

   #11. U18 international point guard Kristi Tamp (173-95, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (5-8) in their last game. Despite Tamp's very good performance Audentese SG/Noortekoondis was crushed 83-58 on the road by the higher-ranked (#4) RTU-Merks. She was the top scorer with 18 points. Tamp also added 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. Tamp has averaged so far 3.8ppg and 1.4rpg in the 13 games. She plays currently for the Estonian U18 national team.

   #12. Former international forward Kerdu Arbet-Lenear (184-80, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Marit Maaring (above) in the other team. Arbet-Lenear helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate crushing them 78-30. She scored only 3 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Arbet-Lenear has averaged so far 3.6ppg and 2.6rpg. She used to play for the Estonian national team back in 2011.

   #13. Former U20 international point guard Birgit Piibur (162-94, currently plays in Baltic League) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Baltic League game facing Anastassia Ptitsona (above) in the other team. Piibur helped her Latvian team Eclex Tallinn win their game against the league outsider Victoria-UOR crushing them 96-76. She scored 8 points in only 13 minutes. This year Piibur averages only 3.5ppg in the six games. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team two years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international forward Rosemary Rits (180-92, currently plays in Finland) helped Honka win their game against the league outsider HyPo 99-81 in the Finnish SM-sarja on Saturday night. She recorded 6 points in 19 minutes. Rits has averaged so far 3.3ppg and 3.0rpg in the four games. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #15. U18 international guard Laura Noor (170-95, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Kerdu Arbet-Lenear (above) in the other team. Noor helped Eclex Tallinn win their game against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate crushing them 78-30. She scored only 4 points. Noor has averaged so far 1.2ppg and 1.1rpg. She is also in the roster of the Estonian U18 national team.


The list of other players, who all have Estonian passport but never been selected to any of Estonian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Mariel Gregor (174-PG-80, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help Eclex Tallinn (12-2) to beat RTU-Merks (10-5). Gregor recorded 5 points. Eclex Tallinn was defeated 76-69 on the road by the lower-ranked RTU-Merks (#4). Gregor has averaged so far 4.3ppg and 1.3rpg.

   #2. Paula Juurik (173-G-94, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mariel Gregor. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Juurik managed to help Eclex Tallinn to win against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-12) crushing them 78-30. She scored only 2 points. Eclex Tallinn (12-2) is placed third in the LSBL. Juurik has averaged so far 0.6ppg and 1.5rpg.

   #3. Liisi Sokman (168-G-88, currently plays in Germany) was not able to help Don Bosco Bamberg in their game against Eisvogel Freiburg (1-2) in the German DBBL. She cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Sokman scored only 3 points in 10 minutes. The league leader Don Bosco Bamberg was crushed 67-41 in Freiburg by the one of league's weakest teams (#11) Eisvogel. Sokman has averaged so far 2.8ppg and 1.2rpg in the 13 games she played so far.

Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel (2.Bundesliga) landed 22-year old Estonian international point guard Birgit Piibur (162-55kg-94). She has played for the last four years at 1182 Tallinn in Latvian NBL league. In 7 EEWBL games she averaged 8.4ppg, 4.4rpg, 2.9apg and 1.1spg last season. Gruner Stern Keltern (DBBL) tabbed 24-year old Estonian international power forward Mailis Pokk (186-92). She has played for the last three years at 1182 Tallinn in Latvian NBL league. In 7 EEWBL games she averaged 7.6ppg, 5.1rpg and 1.7spg last season.
