Merike Anderson's double-double lands her Player of the Week award among Estonians playing currently abroad - Feb 6, 2013

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Estonian players, who play currently abroad.


Merike Anderson

   #1. This week's number one is an international swingman Merike Anderson (180-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria). She was the major contributor in a Dunav 8806's victory against the league outsider Beroe (6-9) crushing them 88-56 in the Bulgarian NBL in Saturday night's game. Anderson had a double-double by scoring 14 points and making 10 passes. She also added and 3 steals in 28 minutes on the court. Dunav 8806 Ruse (13-4) is placed second in the NBL. It's Anderson's first season with the team. Anderson is currently ninth on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best passers (fourth place). She has individually a very good year with high stats. Anderson averages: 15.2ppg, 3.6rpg, 4.1apg, 1.8spg, 2FGP: 56.0%(84-150), 3FGP: 23.8% and FT: 71.4% in the 17 games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Estonian senior national team.

Valeria Kast

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Valeria Kast (201-87, agency: Josep and Nicolas, college: N.Mexico, currently plays in Latvia). Kast led KK Tallinna Ulikool to a victory over one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-14) crushing them 88-57 in the Latvian LSBL last Saturday. She was MVP of the game. Kast scored 23 points, had 8 rebounds and made 3 blocks; quite an impressive performance considering it's only her third season in pro basketball. KK Tallinna Ulikool (7-8) is placed sixth in the LSBL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. Kast has relatively good stats this season: 13.6ppg, 4.7rpg, 1.4apg, 1.1bpg, 2FGP: 59.1%(65-110) and FT: 76.9%. She is in the roster of the Estonian senior national team.

   #3. The Estonian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international guard Pirgit Puu (168-88, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Valeria Kast. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Puu, who plays in the Latvian LSBL. She could not help one of league's weakest teams KK Tallinna Ulikool (7-8) in their last game. Despite Puu's very good performance KK Tallinna Ulikool lost 69-78 on the road to the higher-ranked (#5) Liepajas. She was the top scorer with 23 points. Puu also added 4 rebounds and dished 7 assists in 40 minutes. Puu is currently fourth on the list of top scorers with 18.8ppg. This year her other stats are: 4.1rpg, 3.0apg, 2.5spg, 2FGP: 47.4%, 3FGP: 54.1%(20-37) and FT: 72.0% in the 12 games. Puu played for the Estonian national team two years ago.

Greeta Uprus

   #4. Swingman Greeta Uprus (177-94, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL was not able to help Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (6-9) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her very good performance Audentese SG/Noortekoondis was defeated 65-58 on the opponent's court by the leading Cesis. Uprus was the top scorer with 24 points. She also added 7 rebounds. This season Uprus has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 4.2rpg, 1.8apg and 1.2spg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #5. International forward Kerttu Jallai (180-90, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Valeria Kast and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Jallai contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-14) crushing them 88-57. She scored 20 points, had 9 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 26 minutes. Jallai has very impressive stats this year: 18.4ppg, 9.3rpg, 3.3apg and 1.9bpg in the eight games. She plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #6. Center Susanna Koert (195-96, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Greeta Uprus. However that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which brought her to that list. Koert contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) crushing them 103-64. She recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and getting 13 rebounds. Koert also added 4 assists, 2 blocks and 4 steals. Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (6-9) is placed seventh in the LSBL. Koert's overall stats this season are: 3.5ppg, 3.5rpg and 1.3apg. She is U18 international player who is currently on the Estonian National Team roster.

   #7. Former international guard Oksana Miil (172-86, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Valeria Kast. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Kerttu Jallai (above) in the other team. Miil contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Latvijas Universitate (3-14) crushing them 88-57. She scored 12 points, had 4 boards, dished 8 assists and stole 5 balls in 40 minutes. Miil is currently seventh on the list of best passers with 3.3apg. She also averaged so far 13.7ppg, 4.4rpg and 1.9spg in the 14 games. Miil used to play for the Estonian national team two years ago.

   #8. Guard Kati Rausberg (172-89, college: Eckerd, currently plays in Belarus) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Sozh Gomel (5-9) 80-65 in the Belarusian Premier League last Saturday. She scored 13 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. BK Tsmoki-Minsk (12-2) is placed fourth in Group A. It was her team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. Rausberg's overall stats this season are: 7.5ppg, 3.3rpg and 1.2apg. She plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #9. U18 international point guard Kristi Tamp (173-95, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Greeta Uprus. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Susanna Koert (above) in the other team. Tamp contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) crushing them 103-64. She scored 12 points and added 3 assists in 22 minutes. This year Tamp's overall stats are: 4.2ppg and 1.6rpg in the 15 games. She is also in the roster of the Estonian U18 national team.

   #10. Forward Marie Roosalu (178-96, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Greeta Uprus. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Kristi Tamp (above) in the other team. Roosalu contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) crushing them 103-64. She scored 13 points. Roosalu's total stats this season are: 2.5ppg and 1.9rpg. She is U18 international player who is currently on the Estonian National Team roster.

   #11. Former U18 international forward Kaia Kosk (177-89, college: E.Kentucky, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL was not able to secure a victory for Rapla KK (3-12) in their last game. Despite Kosk's good performance Rapla KK was crushed 128-33 on the opponent's court by the leading Cesis. She was the top scorer with 10 points. Kosk also added 5 boards, dished 4 assists and stole 3 balls in 34 minutes. Kosk is currently fifth on the list of best passers with 3.4apg. This year she also averages: 14.4ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.8spg in the 12 games. Kosk used to play for the Estonian U18 national team six years ago.

   #12. International guard Jana Rannaveski (172-87, currently plays in Belarus) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Sozh Gomel crushing them 86-62 in the Belarusian Premier League in Wednesday night's game. She recorded 7 points in 17 minutes. Rannaveski is currently fifth on the league's list of best passers with 2.4apg. She also averaged so far 6.5ppg, 2.5rpg and 1.3spg in the 13 games. Rannaveski is also in the roster of the Estonian national team.

   #13. Former U18 international forward Katre Arniste (182-89, currently plays in Latvia) faced previously mentioned Susanna Koert in the Latvian LSBL last game. Arniste, who plays in the Latvian LSBL couldn't help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) in their last game. Despite her good performance the bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 103-64 in Audentes by the higher-ranked (#7) e SG/Noortekoondis. Arniste scored 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. This year Arniste's total stats are: 3.4ppg and 4.6rpg in the 12 games. She used to play for the Estonian U18 national team six years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international point guard Janeli Lilleallik (168-94, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Katre Arniste and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Lilleallik couldn't help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite in their game against Audentese SG/Noortekoondis. Despite her good performance in Wednesday night's game She scored 12 points and added 4 assists. Lilleallik has averaged so far 7.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.2apg and 1.2spg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #15. Former U16 international forward Kristel Viljus (173-93, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaia Kosk and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Viljus couldn't help Rapla KK in their game against Cesis. She was the second best scorer with 9 points in 24 minutes. Her team was crushed by 95 points 128-33. Viljus has averaged so far 8.4ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.7apg and 2.2spg in the 13 games. She used to play for the Estonian U16 national team four years ago.

   #1. Kaiti Vasiljeva (177-G-87, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her good performance the bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 105-42 on the road by the second-ranked TTT Riga. Vasiljeva was the top scorer with 13 points. She also added 7 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Vasiljeva's total stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.4apg and 2.2spg.

   #2. Kadri Uigra (183-F-97, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaiti Vasiljeva. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Uigra was not able to help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) in their game against Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (6-9). Despite her good performance last Wednesday She was the top scorer with 12 points. Uigra also added 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Uigra's total stats this season are: 6.8ppg and 6.9rpg.

   #3. Maarja Kalma (169-G-88, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kaiti Vasiljeva and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Kalma was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-14) in their game against TTT Riga (15-2). She scored 7 points in 24 minutes. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 105-42 in Riga by the second-ranked TTT Riga. Kalma has been at the team for eight years. Kalma has averaged so far 3.1ppg and 1.3rpg in the eight games she played so far.

Audentense SK celebrated the NKL title. They rallied past BC Vars 71:57 in the Final. Viive Kai Rebane (183-F-89, college: Binghamton) and Kati Rausberg (173-G-89, college: Eckerd) posted 16 points each for the winners. Audentese jumped to a 17:15 lead ten minutes into the game. Audentese SK - Rapla KK 62-38 Audentese SK cruised past Rapla to reach NKL title game. The game without a history. Audentese SK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Rapla KK to just 5 points in second quarter.
