Siim-Sander Vene selected the top Estonian playing abroad in last week's games - Feb 20, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Estonians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international small forward Siim-Sander Vene (203-90, agency: Alti Sport, currently plays in Lithuania), who plays in the Lithuanian LKL. He could not help Rudupis (12-2) in their last game. Despite Vene's very good performance the league leader Rudupis lost 81-85 on the road to the second-ranked Neptunas. He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Vene also added 6 rebounds and dished 6 assists in 34 minutes on the court. It's Vene's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 12.3ppg, 6.2rpg, 2.9apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 59.6%(59-99), 3FGP: 25.7% and FT: 62.5% in the 13 games he played so far. Vene is currently a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international small forward Kristjan Kangur (201-82, currently plays in Euroleague). He contributed to a Montepaschi Siena's victory against the fifth-ranked Caja Laboral (4-3) 85-74 in the Euroleague last Friday. Kangur recorded 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Montepaschi Siena (6-1) is placed second in group F. This season Kangur averages: 8.5ppg, 3.2rpg, 1.2apg, 2FGP: 48.4%, 3FGP: 48.5%(32-66). He is in the roster of the Estonian senior national team.

   #3. The Estonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international swingman Gregor Arbet (195-83, currently plays in Balkan League). Arbet was not able to help Kavala (3-3) in their game against Levski Sofia (4-2) in the Balkan League. He scored 8 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 32 minutes. The fourth-placed Kavala lost 73-77 at home to the leading Levski Sofia in the group C of Balkan League. There are only four games left until the end of the Balkan League Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. This year Arbet's overall stats are: 9.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 3.0apg, 2FGP: 44.4%, 3FGP: 27.3% in the two games. He is also a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #4. Point guard Sten-Timmu Sokk (181-89, currently plays in Georgia) helped Olimpi win their game against the ninth-ranked Batumi (3-10) crushing them 105-66 in the Georgian Superleague in Friday night's game. Sokk scored 8 points, made 3 passes and 3 steals. Olimpi Tbilisi (10-2) is placed fourth in the Superleague. Sokk is currently fourth on the league's list of best passers. His total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 3.1rpg, 5.9apg and 1.2spg. Sokk has a dual citizenship: Greek and Estonian. He is also Estonian national team player.

International power forward Janar Talts (207-83, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Cimberio Varese in a victory against the 11th-ranked SAIE3 BO (7-12) 78-61 in the Italian SerieA last Sunday. Talts recorded only 2 points in 8 minutes on the court. Cimberio Varese (16-3) is placed first in the SerieA. This year Talts' total stats are: 3.2ppg and 2.8rpg in the 19 games. He plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #6. Center Viljar Veski (215-86, currently plays in Spain) helped Palma win their game against the second-ranked CB Guadalajara (10-5) 86-72 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) on Saturday night. Veski scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. Palma Air Europa (7-9) is placed seventh in the LEB Silver. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Veski has averaged so far 7.1ppg and 2.7rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Estonian senior team three years ago.

U20 international power forward Joonas Vaino (204-92, currently plays in Finland) was not able to secure a victory for Namika Lahti (7-24) in their game against KTP-Basket (25-6) in the Finnish Korisliiga. Vaino recorded only 4 points in 5 minutes on the court. The bottom-ranked Namika Lahti was crushed 97-73 in Kotka by the leading KTP-Basket. It was Namika Lahti's third consecutive loss in a row. Vaino has averaged so far 1.8ppg and 1.5rpg in the 31 games. He is also Estonian U20 national team player.

BC Kalev/Cramo defeated Avis Utilitas Rapla 91:62 on the road and was crowned a champion for the 9th time with a 4:0 sweep. Kalev/Cramo started the game with a huge 15:2 run but the hosts managed to come back as they trailed 29:32 only in the middle of the second. However, Kalev made a 7:0 run and won the first half 41:32. In 3rd, Avis fought well and trailed 47:52 with 4 minutes to play. FINAL Rapla - Kalev/Cramo 74-77 Kalev/Cramo overcame a fierce opposition from Rapla to claim the third straight win in the series. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 26-21 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Kalev/Cramo forced 19 Rapla turnovers.
