Mirjam Nikolai selected the top Estonian playing abroad in last week's games - Mar 6, 2013

We bring you last week's top performances from Estonians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is an international guard Mirjam Nikolai (177-86, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL. She could not help one of league's weakest teams Eclex Tallinn (16-4) in their last game. Despite Nikolai's very good performance Eclex Tallinn lost 55-65 on the road to the second-ranked TTT Riga. She was the top scorer with 25 points. Nikolai also added 8 rebounds, 4 assists and made 4 blocks in 36 minutes on the court. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Nikolai's first season with the team. She has individually a very good year with high stats. Nikolai averages: 15.5ppg, 5.1rpg, 2.5apg, 2.3spg, 2FGP: 57.6%(91-158), 3FGP: 31.9% and FT: 80.6% in the 20 games she played so far. She is currently a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to former international guard Heila Rosenfeldt (173-83, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Rosenfeldt led Eclex Tallinn to a victory over the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) crushing them 91-59. She was MVP of the game. Rosenfeldt recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and getting 12 rebounds. She also added 6 assists and 6 steals. Eclex Tallinn (16-4) is placed third in the LSBL. Rosenfeldt is ranked fifth on the list of the best passers in the league. She has very reliable stats this season: 10.3ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.6apg, 2.2spg, 2FGP: 44.7%, 3FGP: 24.6% and FT: 77.5%. Rosenfeldt played for the Estonian national team in 2011.

   #3. The Estonian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international forward Kerttu Jallai (180-90, currently plays in Latvia). She was the main contributor in a KK Tallinna Ulikool's victory against one of league's weakest teams Rapla KK (3-15) crushing them 95-55 in the Latvian LSBL on Friday night. Jallai was the best player in that game. She had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 16 rebounds. Jallai also added 6 assists and 4 steals in 30 minutes. KK Tallinna Ulikool (10-8) is placed sixth in the LSBL. It was her team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Jallai is currently first on the list of top scorers and also on the list of best rebounders (fourth place). She has very impressive stats this year: 19.5ppg, 10.0rpg, 3.8apg, 1.6bpg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 57.8%(78-135) and FT: 71.4% in the 11 games. Jallai is also a member of the Estonian senior national team.

   #4. Guard Marit Maaring (178-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Heila Rosenfeldt (above) in the other team. Maaring contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) crushing them 91-59. She recorded 18 points, 6 assists and 9 steals. Maaring's overall stats this season are: 7.7ppg, 3.3rpg, 1.9apg and 2.5spg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #5. International power forward Laina Mesila-Kaarmann (186-87, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Marit Maaring (above) in the other team. Mesila-Kaarmann was the major contributor in a Eclex Tallinn's victory against the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) crushing them 91-59. She recorded 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in 20 minutes. Mesila-Kaarmann has very impressive stats this year: 15.1ppg, 5.1rpg, 1.1apg and 1.5bpg in the 20 games. She plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #6. Point guard Anastassia Ptitsona (168-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. However that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which brought her to that list. Ptitsona contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked TTT Juniores (7-13) crushing them 93-43. She was the top player that evening. Ptitsona recorded 21 points and added 4 passes. Eclex Tallinn (16-4) is placed third in the LSBL. Ptitsona is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's her fifth year in Eclex Tallinn's roster. Her overall stats this season are: 7.4ppg, 2.8rpg, 3.0apg and 2.2spg. Ptitsona is a former U20 international player as she played for the Estonian team two years ago.

   #7. International power forward Annika Koster (185-92, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL we would like to talk about. Koster, who plays in the Latvian LSBL was not able to help Eclex Tallinn (16-4) in their last game. Despite her very good performance Eclex Tallinn was badly defeated 75-58 in a derby game by the lower-ranked (#6) KK Tallinna Ulikool. Koster was the top scorer with 17 points. She also added 4 rebounds in 36 minutes. Koster is ranked fifth on the list of the best rebounders in the league and also on the list of most steals (second place). This year she has very good stats: 13.8ppg, 9.3rpg, 2.5apg and 2.9spg in the 17 games. Koster is also Estonian national team player.

   #8. Guard Pirgit Puu (168-88, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kerttu Jallai and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Puu contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Rapla KK (3-15) crushing them 95-55. She recorded 21 points and had 3 steals (made all of her seven free throws). Puu is currently fourth on the league's list of top scorers. This season she has very high stats. Puu averages: 18.7ppg, 4.1rpg, 2.9apg and 2.6spg. She used to play for the Estonian national team back in 2011.

International swingman Merike Anderson (180-81, agency: LBM Management, currently plays in Bulgaria) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider Rilski Sportist (1-17) crushing them 76-49 in the Bulgarian NBL on Saturday night. Anderson recorded 9 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists in 25 minutes. Dunav 8806 Ruse (14-4) is placed second in the NBL. Anderson belongs to league's best passers and is ranked #4 with 4.1apg. This year her other stats are: 14.5ppg, 3.7rpg and 1.8spg in the 19 games. Anderson is also in the roster of the Estonian national team.

   #10. Forward Kerdu Arbet-Lenear (184-80, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mirjam Nikolai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Anastassia Ptitsona (above) in the other team. Arbet-Lenear contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked TTT Juniores (7-13) crushing them 93-43. She recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and getting the same number of rebounds. Arbet-Lenear's overall stats this season are: 3.8ppg and 3.4rpg. She is a former international player as two years ago she still played for the Estonian senior national team.

   #11. International forward Viive Kai Rebane (182-89, college: Binghamton, currently plays in Bulgaria) was not able to secure a victory for Neftochimic in their game against Haskovo 2012 in the Bulgarian NBL. Rebane recorded only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 16 minutes. Her team lost 80-84. This year Rebane's overall stats are: 4.9ppg and 4.6rpg in the seven games. She plays currently for the Estonian national team.

   #12. Former international guard Oksana Miil (172-86, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kerttu Jallai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Pirgit Puu (above) in the other team. Miil contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Rapla KK crushing them 95-55. She recorded 13 points. Miil is currently seventh on the league's list of best passers. She has very solid stats this season: 13.1ppg, 4.1rpg, 3.2apg and 2.0spg. Miil used to play for the Estonian national team back in 2011.

   #13. Former U18 international forward Nele Laurimaa (178-93, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kerttu Jallai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Annika Koster (above) in the other team. Laurimaa contributed to an easy victory against the closely-ranked Eclex Tallinn 75-58 in a derby game. She scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 31 minutes. This year Laurimaa's total stats are: 7.6ppg, 3.1rpg, 1.1apg and 1.6spg in the 16 games. She used to play for the Estonian U18 national team two years ago.

   #14. Former U20 international forward Elise Kait (178-91, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Kerttu Jallai. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Oksana Miil (above) in the other team. Kait contributed to an easy victory against one of league's weakest teams Rapla KK crushing them 95-55. She recorded 7 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Kait has averaged so far 2.1ppg and 1.6rpg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team back in 2011.

   #15. Former U20 international swingman Greeta Uprus (177-94, currently plays in Latvia), who plays in the Latvian LSBL couldn't help Audentese SG/Noortekoondis (8-11) in their last game on Saturday. Despite her good performance Audentese SG/Noortekoondis was crushed 100-48 in Riga by the second-ranked TTT Riga. Uprus was the second best scorer with 13 points. Uprus has relatively good stats this season: 11.1ppg, 4.1rpg, 1.7apg and 1.2spg. She used to play for the Estonian U20 national team two years ago.


The list of other players, who all have Estonian passport but never been selected to any of Estonian national teams:

   #1. Experienced Mariel Gregor (174-PG-80, currently plays in Latvia) managed to help Eclex Tallinn in a victory against the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) crushing them 91-59 in the Latvian LSBL on Tuesday night. Gregor recorded only 4 points and added 3 passes in 18 minutes. Eclex Tallinn (16-4) is placed third in the LSBL. There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Gregor has averaged so far 3.7ppg, 1.7rpg, 1.7apg and 1.1spg in the nine games she played so far.

   #2. Paula Juurik (173-G-94, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Mariel Gregor. But that was another game of her team in Latvian LSBL which we would like to mention. Juurik contributed to an easy victory against the eighth-ranked TTT Juniores (7-13) crushing them 93-43. She recorded only 2 points in 13 minutes. Eclex Tallinn (16-4) is placed third in the LSBL. Juurik has averaged so far 0.7ppg and 1.6rpg in the 11 games.

   #3. Sade Ereli (175-G-94, currently plays in Latvia) faced previously mentioned Mariel Gregor in the Latvian LSBL last game. Ereli, who plays in the Latvian LSBL could not help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) to beat Eclex Tallinn (16-4). She was the top scorer with 9 points. Ereli also added 4 rebounds in 23 minutes. But the bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 91-59 on the road by the much higher-ranked (#3) Eclex Tallinn. So far BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite lost all sixteen games in the Regular Season. Ereli has averaged so far 4.8ppg and 4.8rpg in the 11 games.

   #4. Maarja Kalma (169-G-88, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sade Ereli and both played together in the last Latvian LSBL game. Kalma was not able to help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) in their game against Eclex Tallinn (16-4). She recorded 8 points in 19 minutes. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 91-59 in Tallinn by the much higher-ranked (#3) Eclex. Kalma has been at the team for eight years. Kalma has averaged so far 3.5ppg and 1.4rpg in the 10 games.

   #5. Kaiti Vasiljeva (177-G-87, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sade Ereli. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Maarja Kalma (above) in the other team. Vasiljeva was not able to secure a victory for the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite (0-16) in their game against Eclex Tallinn (16-4). She recorded only 4 points and had 3 steals. The bottom-ranked BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite was crushed 91-59 in Tallinn by the much higher-ranked Eclex (#3). Vasiljeva has averaged so far 8.2ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.5apg and 2.5spg.

   #6. Kadri Uigra (183-F-97, currently plays in Latvia) is a teammate of previously mentioned Sade Ereli. She played also in the last Latvian LSBL game facing Kaiti Vasiljeva (above) in the other team. Uigra couldn't help the league outsider BC Tartu Ulikooli/Loctite in their game against Eclex Tallinn. She recorded only 4 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 14 minutes. Her team was crushed by 32 points 91-59. Uigra has averaged so far 6.7ppg and 6.7rpg in the 15 games.

   #7. Liisi Sokman (168-G-88, currently plays in Germany) contributed to a Don Bosco Bamberg's victory against the tenth-ranked Herner TC 71-63 in the German DBBL on Saturday night. She recorded only 3 points in 4 minutes on the court. This year Sokman averages just 2.7ppg in the 18 games.
  



NKL Round 6: Tahtvere loses their first game against VARS - 5 days ago

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Tahtvere (2-1) in Tallinn on Friday night. Visitors were edged by VARS (2-1) 60-59. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Tahtvere. It was a key game for the top position in the league. NKL Round 5: OSK hands first loss to Audentese SK - 12 days ago

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Audentese SK (1-1) in Tallinn on Wednesday night. Hosts were rolled over by second ranked OSK (3-1) 71-48. The game without a history. OSK led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter.
