Thomas van
der Mars
Dutch Center Thomas van der Mars (208-C-90) put on an amazing game in the last round for Rapla, receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 7.
The 26-year old player had a double-double of 23 points and 18 rebounds, while his team crushed, the league's bottom-ranked team Noorteliiga (#8, 0-5) with 17-point margin 81-64. Thanks to this victory Rapla moved-up to the 3rd position in Estonian Alexela KML. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Rapla will need more victories to improve their 5-2 record. van der Mars turned to be Rapla's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Portland star has very solid stats this year. van der Mars is in league's top in points (4th best: 19.0ppg) and averages impressive 1.4bpg and 63.9% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 31-year old Estonian point guard Kristo Saage (186-PG-85) of Valga. Saage had a very good evening with 29 points and 4 rebounds. Of course Valga cruised to a 88-76 relatively comfortable win over TLU/Kalev (#9, 0-6). Valga's 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team's 4-4 record is not bad at all. Saage is a newcomer at Valga, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Carlos Jurgens (190-PG-98) of Noorteliiga (#8). Jurgens scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds. Despite Jurgens' great performance Noorteliiga lost 64-81 to the higher-ranked Rapla (#3, 5-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Noorteliiga can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 5 games. Too bad for Jurgens he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Jurgens has a very solid season. In 5 games in Estonia he scored 11.8ppg.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Demonte Harper (193-G-89) of Kalev/Cramo - 21 points and 4 rebounds
5. Justin Baker (203-F/C-89) of Tarvas - 22 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Vitali Liutych (198-SG-92) of Kalev/Cramo - 28 points and 2 rebounds
7. Thomas van der Mars (208-C-90) of Rapla - 18 points and 8 rebounds
8. Mandell Thomas (188-G-93) of TU/Rock - 23 points and 5 assists
9. Rain Raadik (208-C-89) of Valga - 7 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists
10. Janari Joesaar (198-SF-93) of TU/Rock - 13 points and 9 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
