Thomas van
der Mars
Dutch Thomas van der Mars (208-C-90) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's second-best Rapla and that's him to receive a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 26-year old center had a double-double of 17 points and twenty four rebounds, while his team beat Parnu (#7, 3-5) 75-62. Rapla is placed at 2nd position in Estonian Alexela KML. They would have been even better if they did not have these two lost games earlier in Regular Season. Rapla will need more victories to improve their 6-2 record. van der Mars turned to be Rapla's top player in his first season with the team. University of Portland graduate has very impressive stats this year. van der Mars is in league's top in points (4th best: 18.8ppg) and averages solid 1.3bpg and 63.4% FGP.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 27-year old American power forward Justin Baker (203-F/C-89) of Tarvas. Baker impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds. Bad luck as Tarvas lost that game 77-105 to league's leader TU/Rock (#1, 7-0). Tarvas managed to keep the same 6th spot in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-5 record. Baker is a newcomer at Tarvas and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.6ppg (#1). He also registered 8.2 boards per game. Utah Valley University alumni Baker played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.

The third best performed player last round was former international forward Janar Talts (206-PF-83) of top-ranked TU/Rock. Talts showcased his all-around game by recording 22 points, six rebounds and four assists in the last round. He was a key player of TU/Rock, leading his team to a 105-77 easy win against the lower-ranked Tarvas (#6, 3-5). TU/Rock have amazing season winning all 7 games without a single defeat. Talts turns to be one of the very best players in the league while he is also a leader of the top team having his eyes on the championship title. Talts has a great season in Estonia. After only 7 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 15.6ppg (9th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Mihkel Kurg (190-G-87) of TLU/Kalev - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists
5. Reimo Tamm (188-PG-84) of TLU/Kalev - 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Madis Soodla (205-F/C-97) of Noorteliiga - 16 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists
7. Gert Dorbek (193-SG-85) of TU/Rock - 24 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists

10. Robertas Grabauskas (208-C-90) of TLU/Kalev - 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
