Cedric
Simmons
Defending champion BC Kalev/Cramo Tallinn (Alexela KML) inked 30-year old Bulgarian ex-international power forward Cedric Simmons (206-107kg-86, college: North Carolina State). He has a double citizenship as he also holds American passport. Simmons already started the season at Buducnost in Montenegrin Erste Liga. The last season he was tested by Betis Energia Plus Sevilla (Liga Endesa) in Spanish league. Simmons also played earlier that season for Maccabi Fox Tel-Aviv in Israeli league. But in only one Eurocup game he did not score anything and 1 assist. Simmons also spent pre-season at Gaziantep Basketbol (BSL) in Turkish league earlier that year.
In 2006 he was drafted by New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets (NBA) in first round (15th overall). Simmons attended North Carolina State and it will be his eleventh (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements he played in the final of Greek League in 2014. Simmons received also Eurobasket.com Greek A1 League All-Newcomers Team award back in 2011.
He represented Bulgaria at the Qualifications to European Championships 2013 four years ago. His stats at that event were 8 games: 10.4ppg, 8.3rpg, 1.3bpg, FGP: 57.1%, FT: 53.3%.
Simmons is a very experienced player. He has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to six different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). Simmons has played previously professionally in China (Leopards), Italy (Enel Brindisi), NBA (Chicago Bulls and Sacramento Kings), Greece (Peristeri GS Athens, Olympiacos and Kavala), Spain (Movil Estudiantes) and D-League (Salt Lake City Stars).
His game is described as: (by Aran Smith for NBADraft.net in 2006)
Tremendous shot blocker due to his huge wingspan (7'4") and quick leaping ability ... Disruptive and active defensively ... Has the size to play center and power forward on the next level ... Uses back to the basket post moves and is showing great progress in his ability to score posting up ... Has developed an effective jump hook ... Displays solid toughness inside. Does not shy away from contact ... Plays hard, good energy ...
Lacks great range and a consistent jump shot from any distance ... Offensive game is still a work in progress ... Shows excellent flashes, but lacks any real go-to moves
