La Fortezza triumph in EuroChallenge - Apr 26, 2009

Virtus - Cholet 77:75
Virtus Bologna celebrated the EuroChallenge title after beating Cholet in the Final game at the home arena. The game was a first-class show for all fans that gathered to watch the encounter. The dramatic dying minutes brought success to La Fortezza though.
Virtus has won the opening frame 21:19 after Alex Righetti nailed a three-pointer at the dawn of the frame. The hosts surged ahead early in the second frame to earn a 10-point advantage. However Cholet managed to step on the gas and trimmed the deficit after Nando De Colo (202-G-87) hit from beyond the arc. Giovanonni failed to answer straight back with 11 seconds left in the half. The buzzer sent the teams to the lockers with scoreboard reading 45:39 in favor of Virtus.
Virtus came back to the court controlling the game and did not slow down in the third period. Righetti made it 54:46 midway through the third period. The French outfit reduced the gap however to 56:53 after Claude Marquis (204-F/C-80) stepped up with some timely baskets. Earl Boykins (168-G-76, college: E.Michigan) closed the third period with two free throws for 64:57.
The last period started with the dunk by Ford which was followed by a basket from Giovanonni for 68:60. Trailing 13 points with less than 5 minutes in the fourth period Cholet reduced to 76:73 with 2 minutes to go. French team reduced to surrender exploding with a 10-0 run. Sharrod Ford (206-F-82, agency: Pro One Sports, college: Clemson) missed two free throws, while Nando De Colo was deadly from the stripe reducing the margin to just one point 75:76. Keith Langford (193-G/F-83, college: Kansas) got fouled and hit one free throw to make it 77:75 for Virtus. Nando De Colo had a chance to save the game but missed a potential winner sealing the fate for Cholet.
Langord was pivotal for Virtus with 21 points. Earl Boykins delivered 18 points and 5 boards for the winning side. Nando De Colo could not rescue his team despite an impressive performance worth game-high 24 points.
