Israeli national team captain Yotam Halperin, isn't likely to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv in the upcoming season, sources with information of the player's status decisively told Eurobasket.
Halperin, who spent last season in Russia with Spartak St.Petersburg is facing severe tax issues, preventing him from signing with his childhood organization.
Halperin's agent Arik Krayn, confirmed the information to Eurobasket via cellular this afternoon. "We're facing tax difficulties for some years now. Yotam (Halperin) wants to play for Maccabi, he loves the club and is eager to be apart of their family again. Nevertheless, he won't play for Maccabi if the circumstances don't allow it."
The kind of "circumstances" Krayn's referring to are roughly $300,000 that Halperin is required to pay Israeli tax corporations due the fact that he's played for four consecutive years outside Israel.
Krayn continued and revealed that he's already undergoing the process of searching for further overseas possibilities for his client, "I'm currently looking into the best fit for Yotam and his family."
Russian sources recently reported to Eurobasket that Lokomotiv Kuban has showed interest in the Israeli talent. Krayn however, shattered any possibilities of Halperin returning to Russia next season. "A return to Russia is out of the question for Yotam. We've received offers but Yotam is certain not to return to Russia."
