Unics earn 2010/2011 EuroCup title - Apr 18, 2011
Cajasol - Unics 77-92
Unics are 2010/2011 EuroCup titleholders. They held off Cajasol in the championship clash tonight in Treviso. Maciej Lampe finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. It all started quite well for Unics. They quickly cleared off to a 10-point lead 14:4. Marko Popovic (185-G-82, college: S.Idaho JC) hit a trey for a 22:8 lead for the Russian team. Kelly Mccarty capped the period with a dunk and Unics were up by as many as 16 points 32:16. Veremeenko stretched the gap to 20 points midway through the second term as the game seemed turning into a one-way traffic. But Cajasol stopped the rot with a 10:2 run. Louis Bullock (185-G-76, college: Michigan) and Tariq Kirksay (199-F-79, college: Iona) stepped up for the Seville team late in the half as they cut the deficit at 15-point mark at the interval 36:51. Katelynas and Juan Triguero (208-C-83) dragged Cajasol as close as 7 points midway through the third term. But Kelly McCarty came up for Unics to keep those at safe distance. Unics managed to enter the fourth term up by 9 points 71:62. Lampe knocked down six consecutive points for the Russian side in the fourth term as the margin grew at 14 points. Lyday followed with a three-pointer and Unics never looked back. Kelly McCarty and Marko Popovic scored 18 points apiece for Unics. Marko Popovic was trumped Final Four MVP after the game. Txemi Urtasun (193-G-84, agency: Interperformances) and Louis Bullock answered with 15 points each for Cajasol. Tariq Kirksay and Juan Triguero netted 10 points apiece in defeat.

3rd place
Benetton TV - Cedevita 57-59
Cedevita wrapped up their EuroCup campaign on a high note. They defeated Benetton in Treviso to clinch the Bronze medals. Everything was decided in the dying seconds in this low-scoring affair. Corsley Edwards (205-C/F-79, agency: Impact Basketball, college: Cent.Conn.St.) came up with key offensive rebound late in regulation and hit a decisive free throw to propel Cedevita to the victory. He finished with 16 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge. The teams got to quite slow start. They teamed up for 18 points in the opening term as Benetton established a 12:6 lead. Dontaye Draper (180-G-84, college: Charleston), Troha and Corsley Edwards accounted for 7 points in a row midway through the second term as Cedevita pulled in front 15:14. But the hosts managed to retain the lead as they were up by two at halftime 23:21. Devin Smith (196-G/F-81, college: Virginia) and Nicevic opened the second half with five points in a row to stretch the margin. Benetton maintained the lead throughout the bigger part of the quarter before Troha and Rudez hit consecutive triples giving Cedevita a 37:36 lead at the final intermission. Donatas Motiejunas (213-C-90, agency: Interperformances), Devin Smith and Peric helped the home team back in charge 42:37 early in the final period. But back-to-back three-pointers from Dontaye Draper and Vedran Vukusic (206-F-82, college: Northwestern) ensured a 46:44 lead for the visitors. The lead then changed hands for several times before Dontaye Draper and Bracey Wright made it 58:54 for Cedevita. Bulleri kept Benetton hopeful with a three-pointer and the hope got even bigger after Dontaye Draper missed both of his free throws. But Corsley Edwards pulled down an offensive rebound and hit one of two freebies to seal the win for Cedevita. Dontaye Draper produced 10 points, while Vedran Vukusic had 9 points in the victory. Greg Brunner (201-F-83, college: Iowa) and Donatas Motiejunas replied with 10 points apiece for Benetton. Devin Smith had 9 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
