Finally, after 7 losses in a row, Asvel is back on track.
The French champion easily beat Olympiacos, and are back in the picture
for the Top 16 since they lost by no more than 6 in Greece, and are one
win behind the Reds. Olympiacos are now tied with Idea Slask with a 5-7
record, and share the 5th and 6th spots, but do carry a double victory
over the Polish champion, that might be the key for qualification.

Both teams
held the same record before the game, only Idea carried a 1 point win
from the first game. The meaning of a Polish win would mean Partizan's
chances to qualify to the Top 16 are very very slim, while Idea had to
win before the games Vs. Ulker and CSKA in the last 2 gamedays.
Giedraitis scored 8 points in the first minutes of the game, and led
Idea to a 15-6 lead. Vujanic was the only one able to produce points in
Partizan and that was enough to be only 11 points down after one
quarter, 29-18. Partizan showed some character and made a come back but
already before half time Idea was back on top with a 47-34 lead.
Partizan was able to cut the lead to a single figure but nothing more
than that. The locals didn't allow Partizan to pass the 7 point gap line
and even the newcomer Acie Earl took part in the celebrations.

What a night
in Bologna. Not only Predrag Danilovic came back to Virtus' home court,
with his team Partizan, it was also, apparently, the last game of
Antoine Rigaudeau in the uniforms he wore in the last 6 seasons, before
taking off the Dallas, Texas. Rigaudeau was the top scorer of his team
in the win over Partizan that put Virtus one step closer to the Top 16.
58 seconds before the end of the game Valerio Bianchini, in his first
Euroleague game with Virtus, called Rigaudeau to the bench, and the
local fans thanked Rigaudeau for his contribution and the titles, with a
standing ovation that lasted several minutes.
Rigaudeau led Virtus to a 12-6 lead in the first minutes of the game,
but Partizan answered with a 2-8 run. Rigaudeau wasn't about to give up
and by the end of the first quarter Virtus took a 6 point lead again,
20-14. 6 points in a row by Avleev gave Virtus a 33-22 lead. Vujanic,
who went to the line only 6 times, faced some difficulties to break
Virtus' defense, and by half time Virtus was leading 42-29.
Virtus continued to pressure on defense, and suddenly seemed like the
team that we used to know in the last seasons. Partizan managed to score
only 3 points in the first 8 minutes of the 3rd, and Virtus took a 28
point lead, 66-38, after 30 minutes. Vujanic and Krstic led a 0-15 run
by Partizan, but ran out air. Rigaudeau noticed the gap stands on no
more than 13, and acted fast. He scored the next 9 points of Virtus, and
the lead increased once again to more than 20.

Asvel came to
the game Vs. Ulker with a 5 games losing streak, 2 of them at home, but
still couldn't find what it takes to win a Euroleague game. Ulker had a
good day from 3, and dominated the boards, but still had to fight hard
for the win.
Ulker opened the game with a 0-9 run, but Asvel woke up fast enough and
with an 8-0 run made sure they will stay close to the Turks. After 10
minutes of game Ulker was leading 17-21 after a big three pointer by
Yildirim. Ulker was silent from the field in the first 5 minutes of the
2nd quarter, till Joseph Blair was sent back in the game, and made sure
the lead will stay in his team's hands after 2 quarters, 36-40.
Just like in the first quarter it took Asvel too long to recover from
the halftime break. Ulker got 8 points in a row from Erdenay and found
itself leading by 10, 42-52. But Asvel didn't give up. Owens led a 17-5
run, and Asvel was, for a change, on top. After 3 quarters Asvel was
leading 60-57. Mrazek and Petrov sank 2 threes early in the 4th, that
gave Asvel a 69-62 lead, but Ulker found their way back in the game, and
with 2 minutes on the clock, Asvel was leading only by 1, 77-76. From
that point on Asvel's offense was paralyzed. Guylas scored the only
points of Asvel in the last 2 minutes, and against Ulker you need more
than that. Booker and Goljovic made sure Ulker would win this one as
well.

Partizan shocked CSKA Moscow, and became the 2nd team in
the Euroleague to beat the Russian team. In the 1st round CSKA routed
Partizan 93-57, but tonight belonged to Partizan. Back then CSKA held
Vujanic on 9 points in very bad percentages and 7 turnovers, in his
worst Euroleague game this season. Tonight Vujanic got his revenge
scoring 28 points and passing 7 assists.
Partizan dominated the first half, but CSKA was still in the picture.
Vujanic went to the line time after time, while all CSKA had to offer on
offense were Holden and Alexander. Partizan was up by 8, 48-40, after 2
quarters.
The big change came in the 3rd. CSKA scored only 2 points in the first 5
minutes of the half, and a three pointer by Vujanic sent the fans to
heaven, and Partizan to a 61-42 lead. That was the margin also at the
end of the 3rd, 78-59, and the visitors were in shock. In the 4th it was
Partizan's turn not to score in the first 5 minutes of the quarter, and
CSKA took advantage of that to cut the lead to 10, 78-68. But Vujanic
had to complete his revenge, and nailed a 3 pointer that sent Partizan
ahead again, on their way to a big win over the best team in the
Euroleague.

Asvel's crisis didn't come to an end tonight in Wroclaw.
The French champion lost for the 5th time in a row, and allowed the
Polish champion to tie the records with them. Asvel won by 7 in the
first game, so in case of a tie at the end of the 1st round Asvel will
have the upper hand, but the way things look now, and a very tough
schedule in the next 2 games (Vs. Ulker & at Moscow), the future seems
very dark for coach Philip Herve and his team.
The two teams were glued to each other for the majority of the 1st half,
until Idea Slask took off with an 8-2 run late in the 2nd quarter,
39-30. Mrazek nailed a 3 pointer and the lead was cut to 6, 39-33, at
the end of the 2nd quarter. Zielinski led the locals to an 11-2 run in
the 3rd, and Idea was in control. Marcelic and Giffa led Asvel back in
the game with a 0-10 run, and in the last minutes we had a thriller. A
drive to the hoop by Adomaitis made it 75-71 with less than 30 seconds
to go and secured the win for Idea Slask.

The visiting team won almost every game in the history of
the Euroleague between Ulker and Olympiacos. Ulker kept the tradition in
the first round, with a 71-77 win in Piraeus. Tonight Olympiacos, who
never lost on the road to Ulker, did their part of the deal with a 65-82
win in Turkey. For the first time this season Erdenay was the top scorer
of Ulker, but that didn't save Ulker from a 2nd home loss in the
Euroleague.
The Greeks were up by one at the end of the 1st, 16-17, but then came a
1-11 run in the 2nd, that set the Greek lead on 27-39, and at the end of
the 2nd quarter on 33-43. Johnson nailed 2 buckets in a row, and
Olympiacos was up by 14 early in the 3rd. Ulker couldn't stop the
dominance of Olympiacos in the paint, and the gap only got bigger. 51-67
after 30 minutes. Ulker could only cut the margin to 13, but that's
where the "comeback" stopped. Olympiacos did what it takes not only to
beat Ulker, but also to do it in a bigger margin that Ulker won in
Piraeus.

Is it
possible Virtus has found the cure? Without injured Charlie Bell of
course, Virtus beat Real and tied their record with the Spanish team on
5-4. Virtus, that won 73-81 in Madrid, completed a double win over Real
and cut a 3 wins streak of the visitors, with the help of Matjaz Smodis,
that recovered from an injury only a short while ago.
Real had a great start, and soon took a 3-12 lead. Tanjevic took a time
out, and from the moment on Virtus was everywhere. Smodis and Rigaudeau
led a 17-2 run, and by the end of the 1st quarter Virtus were leading
20-16. Real completed 6 minutes without scoring even a single point, and
Virtus took advantage of that to make a 14-0 run, and open an 18 points
gap, 34-16. An amazing total of a 31-2 run. Real, finally, realized that
they need to put the ball through the rim, and not around it, and cut
the lead to 16 by half time, 48-32.
The local lead was in danger after Real made a 2-9 run at the early
minutes of the 3rd, and later when Mula nailed a 3 pointer that cut it
down the lead to no more than 8 points. Then it was time for Rigaudeau
to step up, and show Mula what it takes to win a ball game. Virtus were
up by 11 again by the end of the 3rd, 71-60. Digbeu, in a great game,
and Mumbru cut the lead down to 8 again, but then came a 9-0 run of
Virtus, and Real raised their hands.

Both teams came to
this game after 3 consecutive losses, and both had to win. Asvel,
because they just lost at home to Real last week, and another home lose
will be too much. Virtus had to win because they lost the first game
between the teams in Bologna. When the smoke cleared, not only Asvel
lost, they weren't even able to keep the margin from the won in Bologna,
and dropped down to the 6th place. Bogdan Tanjevic, last season the
coach of Asvel, probably had a very good idea what it takes to win in
Lyon.
The first quarter brought smiles on the faces of the local fans. Asvel
took an 8-0 run and finished the first 10 minutes with a 24-18 lead.
Asvel kept the lead during the 2nd quarter till Derrick Dial scored 6
points in the last 1:30 minutes of the half, and tied the game, 40-40.
The big change came in the 3rd quarter. Asvel scored only 11 points, but
9 of them were from the line. Virtus locked their rim and took off to a
16 point lead, 51-67 after 3 buzzers. Asvel raised their hands. That was
too much for a team on the way to a 4th straight lose. Virtus is back on
winning track

his 3rd 3 at the end of the 1st quarter, and pulled a 19-12 lead for the
local team. Markovic added a 3 of his own and Olympiacos was leading by
15, 27-12. Idea Slask cut the lead to 11 by half time, 43-32, but that
didn't bother anyone.
Olympiacos ran off again to an 18 points lead, and after 30 minutes they
were still far above the Polish champion, 61-47. Olympiacos were sure
they got the game done, but Idea fought back to the game, and 41 seconds
to go Giedraitis cut the lead to no more than 2 from the line, 72-70.
Morales missed, but Demarco Johnson scored after a big offensive rebound
with 22 seconds on the clock. In the last seconds Giedraitis scored only
once from the line and Markovic hit twice to secure the win.

foul shots, and open a winning streak with 3 in a row.
Damir Mulaomerovic (195-G-74) is officially back in the Euroleague
with a great performance.
Real made an 8-0 run during the 1st quarter and climbed to a 21-9 lead,
but Partizan scored 6 points in a row and the first quarter finished
with Real up by 6, 21-15. Vujanic cut the margin to 3 in the first
basket of the 2nd, but Real didn't allow the Yugoslavian champion to
celebrate, and increased their lead back to double digits, 36-25.
Partizan, once again, made their way back to the game, with Canak
scoring 14 points in a row, and cutting the lead down to 2, but 2 shots
from outside by Angulo gave Real a 45-39 lead after 20 minutes.
Mula stepped up in the 3rd and carried Real to a 16 points lead, 68-52,
but Partizan, once again, cut the lead before the buzzer, and Real was
up by 7, 68-61, after 3 quarters. Partizan kept fighting but Real had a
terrific day from 3 (12/20) and was able to keep their lead till the
final buzzer.

Someone
should check the custom in Moscow. It seems every team that lands there
show up to the game Vs. CSKA without their offense. Or maybe CSKA should
get all the credit for that. Partizan scored 66, Olympiacos 67, Idea Slask 45 and today Ulker was held on 62 points. In the first game
between the teams Ulker scored 63 points and lose by 3. Tonight CSKA was
able to score a little more than that, and hold the best record in the
Euroleague after 8 games, 7-1.
Great game for the duo Greek guards of CSKA. Hatziverttas is there to
score and today he made 22 points. Papaloukas is there to pass and steal
and today he had 8 of the first kind and 4 of the last. Victor Alexander
is back in shape pretty fast. Tonight he was the 2nd best scorer of CSKA
with 20 points.
CSKA took a 24-13 lead after 10 minutes after Panov, Khryapa and
especially Hatziverttas nailed 3 pointers. The lead climbed up to 15 in
the early minutes of the 2nd, but Booker and Goljovic cut it down to
only 1 after 17 minutes. CSKA allowed Ulker to score only 2 more points
in the last 3 minutes of the game, and the first half was done with CSKA
leading 43-37.
The 3rd quarter was all CSKA. Holden woke up on both sides of the court,

66-42. During the last 3 minutes of the quarter Ulker made a 0-9 run but
was still down by 17 before the last quarter, 68-51. The last 10 minutes
of the game were garbage time. Ulker could only cut the lead here and
there, and cross the 60 points limit before time was up. 78-62 was the

In the 2nd
game day of the Euroleague Partizan came to Moscow, and lost by 36
points after CSKA stopped them on 57 points. Today Idea Slask got to
know what it feels like to play in cold Moscow. The Polish champion
couldn't score more than 45 points - A season low in the Euroleague, and
CSKA won by 28 points. Giedraitis was the only player in Idea Slask to
score in double digits, while CSKA had 4 of them. CSKA opened the game
with a 10-2 play, but Idea managed to cut the lead to 6 at the end of
the 1st quarter, 17-11. A 10-0 run in the late part of the 2nd quarter
pushed CSKA to a 36-19 lead at half time. Victor Alexander, in his first
game with CSKA, didn't have a game to remember, and CSKA scored only 7
points in the 3rd quarter. Idea didn't take advantage of that and cut
the lead only by 6 till the end of the quarter. The young Khryapa had 9
points and 13 rebounds for CSKA who won the 4th quarter 30-13.

Ulker's
foreigners got a helping hand from Harun Erdenay in their 5th win of the
season, this time over Partizan. Miles Vujanic scored 33 points, and
this time was assisted by Kerman, but as usual, that wasn't enough to
beat on the road a Euroleague team such as Ulker.
Praskevicius nailed a 3 pointer late in the 1st quarter to give Ulker a
21-12 lead. The final score of the first quarter was 23-16 but Ulker
kept their rhythm in the 2nd quarter. A 10-0 run in 3 minutes during the
2nd quarter opened a double digits gap between the teams. Ulker's lead
went up to 42-20 and although Partizan started to play full court press
the half time score was 49-29.
Vujanic and Kecman started to bomb and was able to cut the lead to 8,
55-47, during the 3rd. Ulker woke up in time and by the end of the
quarter the lead went up to 14 once again, 63-49. Partizan's last effort
to make a comeback showed some results as Vujanic cut the gap to only 5,
74-69, 4:45 to go, but Ulker replied with a 7-0 run and made sure the 2
points won't leave Turkey tonight.

Another match
up between Greece and Italy took place in the 7th game day.
Olympiacos and Virtus didn't have a good start so far in the season, and
each one needed the 2 points badly.
Rigaudeau swept Virtus to a 12-21 lead in the first quarter, but also
committed his 2nd foul and had to take a rest. Harissis came
off the Greek bench and the first quarter ended with Virtus up by 7,
16-23. Olympiacos' defense was finally set correctly and Virtus couldn't
score more than 7 points till half time, as the Greeks took a 37-30
lead.
Virtus took off with a 0-8 run in the first minutes of the 3rd
but Murice Evans stepped up and gave Olympiacos a 10 points lead, 52-42,
after 26 minutes. Virtus moved to play zone, but that didn't do any
change. Olympiacos was up by 9 after 30 minutes, 57-48. Rigaudeau nailed
two 3 pointers and cut the lead back to 3 early in the 3rd, but once
again Evans was the go to guy of the Greeks and two 3 pointers of his
own, to decide the game for Olympiacos.

A few years ago a game between Real
and Olympiacos, two former Euroleague champions, was a big battle on the
1st place. Today both teams fought to survive in Group C. Real paid a
lot of money to have Alex Mumbru in the team during the summer and today
they got the pay back from the Spanish forward.
Nine points by Mumbru in the first 5 minutes of the game gave Real an
11-6 lead. Angulo took over the game by then, and Real's advantage went
up to 19-8, and later 29-13 at the end of the 1st. Real's celebration
went on during the 2nd, and was stopped only at a 40-18 lead. Harissis
was the only one who could score for the Greeks but that was enough to
come back to 13 points from Real by half time, 40-27.
The reds completed a 0-18 run in the first minutes of the 3rd, and made
it a 4 points game. Real's fans got worried they might witness another
home lose, but Alston in a few good moves gave Real an 11 points lead
after 30 minutes, 53-42. Olympiacos couldn't fight back after failing to
complete the comeback and Real won the game 73-66.

CSKA proved they are a big
team. Darius Songaila, their best player so far in the Euroleague, had
to leave the court after 58 seconds with a knee injury, and didn't
return to play till the end, but CSKA was still able to win in Bologna
in a big battle.
CSKA took a 7-10 lead, but Virtus made a 7-0 run to take a 25-19 lead
after 10 minutes. CSKA didn't allow Virtus to escape in the first
minutes of the 2nd quarter, and 2 bombs from downtown by Panov and Monya
gave CSKA a 31-35 lead. Dial and Andersen replied and Virtus had a 46-44
lead by half time.
Neither team was able to open a big lead in the 3rd as Holden scored for
CSKA and Avleev kept Virtus in the game. CSKA took a small 64-66 lead at
the end of the 3rd quarter, but that was only the appetizer. CSKA made
an unexpected 0-9 run in the first minutes of the 4th, and took an 11
points lead with 6 minutes to play. Virtus didn't break down, and slowly
cut the lead. The scoreboard showed 80-83 to CSKA 3 minutes to the end,
but Virtus wasn't done. CSKA missed too many shots from the line, and a
huge three pointer by Bell tied the score 10 seconds to go. Holden was
sent to the line 2 seconds later, and nailed both shots, and Virtus had
the chance to tie or win the game. Bell went for another 3 point shot,
but this time the ball went out. Avleev took the offensive rebound, and
tried to tie the game, but young Khryapa made a huge block and gave CSKA
a very big win in Bologna, 83-85.

Don't let the final score fool you. CSKA ruled this
game big time, and in the first minutes of the last quarter the
difference between the teams was around 30 points.
Songaila had a good start with 2 hits from 3 and a total of 10 points in
the first 7 minutes. Holden added 2 nails from downtown as well, and
CSKA made a 13-0 run. Real had too many turnovers and trailed 25-15
after 10 minutes. Hererros led a 0-8 run by Real to cut the lead back to
10 after points by Bashminov and Panov, and a 3rd foul by Alston allowed
CSKA to make another run before half time as Hatziverttas picked up his
rhythm, 50-34 to CSKA.
Monya, the young prospect of CSKA, opened the 3rd quarter with a bomb
from downtown, and 4 points by Gatling made it 59-39. Real tried to
respond with Herreros and Reyes but the 3rd quarter was dominated by
Monya, who added another 3, and Gatling, who scored 13 points in the
3rd. 71-51 to CSKA. The lead went up to 25 in the first minutes of the
4th. Real had no chance to make a comeback, and owe a big thank you to
Victoriano who saved them from a bigger humiliation.

Last night Efes Pilsen beat Skipper in Bologna. Tonight
Ulker, the 2nd team of Turkey crushed Virtus, the 2nd team from Bologna
after a huge second half. Ulker signed Blair, Booker and Praskevicius
during the last summer, and the three of them replied today with 69
points.
Ulker took an early 21-12 lead in the first quarter but Virtus replied
with a 2-12 run, and 2 shots from the line by Blair put Ulker on top
after 10 minutes, 25-24. The 2nd quarter was more balanced, and once
again it was Blair who scored the last bucket of the quarter to give
Ulker a one point lead, 46-45 after the 2nd buzzer.
The 2nd half was a totally different story, but still just a promo for
the 4th. Dial and Bell tried to keep Virtus in the game but Blair and
Booker did as they wished, and Ulker took a 73-64 lead at the end of the
3rd with a 3 point shot by Booker. If someone in Virtus believed in a
comeback, the first minutes of the 4th quarter made him think again. A
10-2 Turkish run sent Virtus to pray for mercy, but there was no answer
for their prayers. Praskevicius nailed a three, Booker and Blair
couldn't miss and Ulker scored 32 points in the 4th, and a total of 59
in the 2nd half, on the way to a 27 points win.

One week after the home lose to Partizan, and a few days
after the changes in the center position (Savrasenko back in Russia,
Morales in), Olympiacos faced Asvel who had a perfect record until last
week.
De-Marco Johnson had a good start, but after a 7-0 Greek lead Marcelic
made sure the French champion stay in the game and it was a 22-22 tie at
the end of the first. Olympiacos came to the 2nd quarter with better
defense, and stopped Asvel on 10 points, while Johnson continued his
show and Olympiacos took a rest after 20 minutes with a 38-32 lead.
2 big 3 point shots by Marcelic sent Asvel on a 4-13 trip, and the game
to a 48-48 tie, but Tomic, and once again Johnson, didn't wait too long
before making a 12-2 run, on the way to a 64-53 lead at the end of the
3rd. Morales, in his first Euroleague game, was in good shape, and
helped the reds control under the boards. The gap went up to 13, and
after Asvel made a small come back to minus 7, Tomic nailed 2 three
pointers, and decided the game.

Seems like the best thing
for Slask is to play on the road. Today they got their 2nd win in the
Euroleague, and once again it was far away from Poland. Partizan, after
a huge win in Greece over Olympiacos, found out once again that for the
top level in Europe one Milos Vujanic is not enough.
After 7 minutes of game Partizan had a 17-7 lead, and 19-10 one after 10
minutes. Slask, who missed their starting PG (Miglinieks) and C (Lugo)
bombed from 3 point land and made a 4-11 run on the way to a 5 points
game, 30-25. Partizan was able to keep the lead till half time, 43-37,
but Partizan couldn't hit any shot behind the arc, a sort of a warning
sign for the 2nd half.
Slask moved to play zone in the 3rd quarter, but Milos Vujanic punished
them hard with three 3 pointers, and Partizan took a 68-60 lead after 30
minutes. Idea Slask stormed back in the game in the 4th, and a 2-8 run
put the Polish champion on top, 75-76, 5 min. to go. Wiekiera and Canak
exchanged three pointers, and 1:28 to the end Fredric House, who just
joined Partizan this week, scored his first points in the game and gave
the locals an 85-83 lead. Both teams couldn't score in the following 60
seconds, until Tomczyk scored a huge 3-point shot that gave Idea an
85-86 lead. Partizan still had a chance to win the game, but that chance
didn't developed into something bigger.

straight loses in the Euroleague, 2 at home and one huge defeat in
Moscow, Partizan won their first Euroleague game this season. The
Yugoslavian champion never lost in Piraeus and history was by their side
tonight once again. After an equal first half the reds pushed the balls
to the paint where De miguel was unstoppable, and Olympiacos took a
61-47 lead in the 3rd, and Partizan could only reduce the gap to 10 by
the end of the 3rd quarter, 62-52. The Greeks kept a 10 points lead 4
minutes in the 4th but then came a 0-10 run by Partizan. Well, by Milos
Vujanic to be more exact. The locals woke up in time to take a 75-72
lead with 1 minute on the clock, but the finish was all Partizan.
Vujanic tied the game before Johnson made it 77-75, 27 seconds to go.
Then Nenad Canak showed up in the right moment and sank his first 3
point shot of the game, to put Partizan up by one. Nikagbatse missed
from the line and allowed Partizan to secure their perfect record in
Piraeus.

Virtus won in
Madrid on the 2nd game day. Idea Slask won in Madrid in the 3rd game
day. Both teams met Bologna in the 4th game day, as Virtus got their
first home win in the Euroleague and a pretty easy one. The Polish
champion didn't allow Virtus to make a big run in the first half, and
whenever Virtus got near a double-figure lead came a small run by Idea
to close the gap. At half time the score was 43-39 for the local team,
and although Virtus managed to open a 9 points margin, Idea answered
with a 0-7 run, but for the last time. Frosini and Dial led a 14-3 run
by the Italians and from that point on the difference just got bigger.

Yet another game that was over already after 20 minutes. Dial, in his
1st Euroleague performance was already the star of Virtus, who got their
2nd straight win in Group C, and once again it was on the road.
Partizan, still looking for the first win, had to chase Virtus in the
2nd half, after the Italians easily got 24 points lead at half time,
29-53. Milos Vujanic set a season scoring record in the Euroleague with
36 points, but that was only enough to bring Partizan 8 points from
Virtus in the 4th quarter. Tanjevic sent Dial back on the court and
Virtus made sure the 2 points will travel with them back to Bologna.

In his 1st
ever Euroleague game coach Winnicki led his team Idea Slask to a big win
in Madrid over Real. After the home lose to Virtus last week Real
couldn't afford another defeat in Madrid, especially not against a team
as Slask, who isn't considered one of the top teams in Group C, but just
as last season Real's home court seems like the most welcoming court in
for the visitors in the Euroleague.
Real had a small 41-38 lead at half time, but what gave Real the lead
was not less than 33 free throws attempt in the first half. Real stayed
on top for the majority of the 3rd, but Wiekiera nailed three 3 pointers
to give Slask a 59-62 lead after 30 minutes. Real went to the line
"only" 14 more times in the 2nd half, but still managed to survive.
Alston scored from the line and put Real on top, 78-77, but till the
buzzer Real was able to add only one more point, while Slask scored 8
points on the way to a win in Madrid, 79-85.

leading Group C with CSKA after a 2-0 record in the first two games.
Today they played in Istanbul and came close to get their 3rd win, but a
huge comeback by Ulker put a stop to the French dream.
ASVEL had a very good start, while Ulker couldn't make a shot. Soon the
scoreboard showed 0-10, and although Ulker got their first points ASVEL
was still on top. After 8 minutes in the game Ulker was still stuck on
no more than 3 points, and by the end of the quarter ASVEL was up 7-20
with Ulker making only one field goal. The gap was reduced down to 5
after six straight points by Ulker foreigners, but then came a 0-15 run
by ASVEL, and the French champion had a 15-35 lead to baby-sit. Ulker's
comeback started soon enough, and a fast 8-0 run helped Blair lead the
locals to a 27-38 lead after 20 minutes.
Only two minutes after the 3rd quarter kicked in, Booker and Blair
reduced the gap to 35-38. Golyas, the leading scorer of ASVEL tonight,
had to join the bench players due to foul trouble, and Ulker finished
the quarter only one point behind, 49-50. A three point basket by
Praskevicius and a great Booker-Blair alley-hoop gave the Turks their
first lead in the game, 61-59. Blair then added a great block on Gadou,
and Booker was sent to the line to make it 65-60. Owens scored the last
basket of the game with the buzzer, but the win stayed in Turkey. 65-63
to Ulker. An impressive double-double by Joseph Blair led Ulker to their
first home win in Group C, after a very bad first quarter. For Asvel
this is the first lose in Group C, but one that could be easily erased
in the next round by the French champion.

Papaloukas got his revenge tonight in Moscow. The former PG of
Olympiakos, that was released during the last summer, led CSKA to a
perfect 3-0 record in Group C with a 74-67 win over Olympiakos.
In the first quarter both teams didn't perform a good game on offense,
and after 10 minutes the game with tied, 12-12. Monya and Songaila
pushed CSKA forward to a 10 points lead, but Harissis and Bradtke, in
his last game with the club, reduced CSKA's lead by half. Right before
half time Holden nailed a 3 pointers and CSKA was up by 10 once again,
36-26 at half time.
Olympiakos was able to make a comeback, but CSKA kept a small safe lead
with points by Songaila. 50-45 to the Russians at the end of the 3rd.
CSKA, once again, took off to 56-45, but Harissis was in the right place
to lead a 3-10 run by the Greeks. Songaila was fouled out with less than
5 minutes to play, but then stepped up Papaloukas who made some very
crucial free throws to secure CSKA's 3rd win, 74-67.

After bad start in Eurolague and lost against CSKA last week in
İstanbul, Ulker find the way to win the game against Greek greatest,
Olimpiakos in Greece. Game started under the basket and finish
there also. Olimpiakos couldn't stop Ulker's big guys, Virginijus
Praskevicius (206-C/F-74, agent: Balducci Maurizio) (20) and Joseph
Blair (208-C/F-74, agent: Fox Larry, college: Arizona) (19). The Best
scorer of the Olimpiakos team was Milan Tomic (192-G-72, agent:

Everybody knows the key for a win against Partizan is to
stop Vujanic, but a 36 points defeat is too much for any match up in the
Euroleague. After a 17-10 Russian lead at the end of the 1st quarter,
CSKA kept the pressure on Partizan's guards, and took a 35-21 lead after
20 minutes. The visitors missed all 12 shots from downtown in the first
half, and couldn't score more than 21 points, but finally raised their
hands and hid their heads in the ground in the 3rd. CSKA, who finally
got a good performence by Gatling, scored 30 points, and almost doubled
the points scored by Partizan in 30 minutes, 65-34. Last quarter was a
big garbage time. 93-57 was the final score.

it took Ulker an amazing shot by Goljovic from the other side of the
court to win CSKA at home. Tonight, they weren't so lucky. Both teams
didn't play very well, and missed lots of shots, both from the field and
the free throw line. Ulker took a small lead in the first minutes of the
game, and finished the 1st quarter of the season with a 3 points lead,
20-17. CSKA was able to stop Ulker on 13 points in the 2nd quarter, and
took a 33-35 lead at half time. Songaila made a good debut in CSKA, but
then it was Ulker's time to stop the Russian offence and take a 47-39
lead in the 27th minute. CSKA made a 3-7 run in the last 3 minutes of
the 3rd quarter to reduce the gap to no more than 4, after 30 minutes,
50-46. The only players who could score for Ulker were the new faces:
Booker, Praskevicius, Blair and Erdogan. The rest missed shot after
shot, and CSKA took advantage of that to move close to Ulker. Blair
scored 2 pts with 1:05 on the clock, and Ulker was up by 3, 63-60, but
CSKA made it a one point game 38 secs to go, and a fast break by Holden
put the Russians up again 63-64 with 25 seconds to go. Booker couldn't
score and fouled Songalia who made both free throws with less than 10
seconds on the clock. CSKA made a fast foul to prevent a 3 pt shot
attempt by Ulker. Erdogan missed both shots, but then Bashminov was
fouled with 1.1 seconds on the clock. He as well missed both shots, but
it was too late for Erdenay, who tried to make a Goljovic shot to tie
the game. History did not repeat itself this time and CSKA got their
first win.

Partizan had a good first
quarter, and after 10 minutes the local team took a 23-16 lead, but Real
took control over the game when Imbroda moved to play with Hawkins and
Victoriano side by side and by half the score was 39-42 in favour of the
Spanish team. Real was dominating the boards (23-37 in rebounds) with
Tarlac and Hernanadez-Sonseca and that was enough to take a 55-65 lead.
Vujanic woke up in the last minutes of the game and made it a 3 points
game, 72-75, but Angulo, leading scorer of Real, made sure nothing will
go wrong in the last minutes, and Real got their first win in the
Euroleague.

It's hard to
believe that only 6 months ago Virtus Bologna was the #1 candidate to
win the Euroleague. Bogdan Tanjevic was Asvel's coach last season, but
now he's in Virtus. Maybe it's because Asvel changed the entire team,
but Tanjevic's current team had no answer to the French champion, led by
Marcelic who played in Bologna last season (for Virtus rival - Skipper),
but now he's scoring for Asvel.
Virtus had a few decent first minutes, but then came a 2-15 run by
Asvel, and Virtus was trailing by 8 after the first 10 minutes, 20-28.
In the 2nd quarter it was Virtus turn to make a run, 21-5 in this case,
led by Rigaudeau. The game clock showed 3 minutes to half time, and the
score board was on 41-33, but then Asvel made a 2-9 run till the half
time buzzer - 42-43 after 20 minutes. Davor Marcelic was the man of the
game in the 3rd Q. The Croatian guard made 6 of his 7 three point shot
attempts, and Asvel took off with a 2-17 run, and by the end of the 3rd,
Virtus was behind by 12 (56-68). It seemed as the Euroleague runner-up
gave up, but Rigaudeau's pride didn't allow him to give up so soon, and
the French PG carried Virtus back to the game. 2 minutes to go, it was
a 2 points game, but Bonato was there for Asvel to secure the win.
Rigaudeau still had a chance to tie the score, with 26 ticks on the
clock and an 81-84 game, but the ball went out, and Asvel didn't miss
their free throws.
