In response to Eurobasket's report yesterday concerning Maccabi Tel Avivs star point guard Jeremy Pargo opting out of his contract and becoming a free player, Pargo's agent Brad Ames, addressed the situation for the first time, explaining the player's side of the story.

'This was a very difficult decision for Jeremy to make,' said Ames, 'He truly enjoyed his time with Maccabi Tel Aviv, yet, Jeremy's main goal is to play in the NBA.'

ESPN's Marc Stein hinted that one of the NBA teams that is interested in Pargo's services once the lockout ends, is the San Antonio Spurs. Ames explained that Pargo's move was well thought out. 'During June we had conversations with a number of NBA teams who expressed a great deal of interest in Jeremy for next season. Jeremy had the option to terminate his agreement with Maccabi, and he exercised his option,' Ames added, ending any possibility of Pargo's return to Nokia Arena this season.

Earlier Today

Maccabi released an official statement regarding Pargo's move. 'Maccabi has conveyed to the player that in light of the NBA lockout and the fact that he does not and will not have a guaranteed contract with any NBA team for the coming season, the announcement by his agent is a violation of the contract between Pargo and Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv.'

'In spite of that, Pargo has expressed his intention of remaining in the U.S. and awaiting an end to the strike. Maccabi's management has conveyed to Pargo and his agent that it takes exception to his behavior and views the player as responsible for any damage caused to Maccabi by his breach of contract. Maccabi intends to take all appropriate action to protect its rights in the matter.'

During the summer, team Head Coach David Blatt signed two-time NBA champ, Jordan Farmar, Jon Scheyer, Devin Smith, Shawn James, Theodoros Papaloukas. Israeli point guard Yogev Ohayon has yet to sign, and Israeli sensation Omri Casspi, is expected to finalize his official NBA out contract with the team in the next few days.

Euroleague round 11 best performance: Nicolo Melli - 1 day ago

Italian Power forward Nicolo Melli (205-PF-91) had an amazing evening in the last round for Brose Bask., receiving a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 11. The 25-year old player had a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds, while his team beat Maccabi T-A (#10, 5-6) 85-70. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Brose Bask. is placed at 14th position in Euroleague. Too late to improve their position as the...   [read more]

Recap of Round 11 of Regular Season - 2 days ago

Baskonia - Darussafaka 73-52 Rather expected game in Vitoria where 8th ranked Turkish Darussafaka (5-6) was crushed by fifth ranked Spanish Baskonia (7-4) 73-52. The game was mostly controlled by Baskonia. Darussafaka was better in fourth quarter 19-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Baskonia dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Darussafaka's 22. They outrebounded Darussafaka 47-28 including a 37-19 adv...   [read more]
