Eurobasket's Articles

Traditionally at the end of each year Eurobasket announces the European awards for last year.
It's another such ranking prepared by Eurobasket.com staff for women basketball in Europe. Eurobasket has a network of almost 300 correspondents, while most of them are located in Europe and participated in preparing the ranking.
We have the policy of not involving the fans as it may influence the final ranking and instead of that we rely on the opinions of experts.
The votes were made in two categories: All-Europe and All-Europeans.
All-Europe ranking applies to the players, who played in European leagues in last (10-11) and this (11-12) season, so it may apply also to non-European players, who played as imports in Europe.
All-Europeans category applies only to Europeans, but also these, who played overseas (mostly in WNBA).
The top player in Europe was unquestionably Penny Taylor from Fenerbahce Istanbul. Australian forward was the second best scorer in Euroleague last season with 19.2ppg. Penelope was voted Eurobasket.com All-Euroleague Forward and Import of the Year. During the summer she played for Phoenix Mercury in WNBA and helped her team to reach Semifinals.
Point Guard of the Year is American
Epiphanny Prince (175-G-88) who received Russian citizenship in 2011. She spent 2010/2011 season at Spartak Vidnoe Moscow Region (Russia). She was the key player for the team which advanced to both Euroleague and Russian Superleague Final. Prince averaged 16.6ppg, 3.5rpg, 2.9apg, 1.6spg in 17 Euroleague's games last season and 12.3ppg, 3.2rpg, 2.6apg, 2.4spg (second best) in Russian Superleague.
The shooting guard of the year award goes to
DeWanna Bonner (193-G-87). American player played last season at Rivas Ecopolis in Spain, this season she moved to Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca. With almost 19 points per game she was fourth best scorer in the Euroleague last season.
Penny Taylor (185-F-81) is also the Small Forward of the Year.
For power forward position our correspondents selected
Candice Dupree (188-F/C-84). The American superstar was one of the key of Dobri Anjeli Kosice (Slovakia). She was selected to the Eurobasket.com All-Euroleague 1st Team for the second consecutive season. She also won Slovakian Extraliga Championship. During the summer Candice moved to Phoenix Mercury and together with Penny Taylor advanced to the Semifinals. This season she represents Spartak Vidnoe Moscow Region (Russia)
Last season's best center was without any doubt
Sancho Lyttle (192-C-83) of Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca helping them to win 2010/2011 Euroleague title. Moreover, she was voted as Euroleague Player of the Year averaging 13.5ppg, 8.4rpg, 1.7apg and 2.0spg. In the summer she moved to Ros Casares Valencia.
Coach of the Year is Spanish
Lucas Mondelo who lead Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca to win Euroleague.
The All-Europe 2nd Team includes
Elina Babkina (173-G-89) (last season in Lotos Gdynia, now she plays for Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu), Erin Phillips (173-G-85) of Wisla Can-Pack Krakow (Poland), Alba Torrens (188-F-89) of Galatasaray Istanbul (last season at Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca), Sylvia Fowles (198-C-85) and Tina Charles (193-C-88), both from Galatasaray M.P. Istanbul.
All-Europeans Player of the Year goes to
Maria Stepanova (202-C-79), Russian center from UMMC Ekaterinburg. During last European Championships in Poland she was voted as Best Center (she averaged 12.3ppg, 8.9rpg - third best in the tournament). With UMMC Ekaterinburg she reached Euroleague Semifinals. She is joined in the 1st team by Elina Babkina, Sandra Mandir (177-G-77) of Gospic, Alba Torrens and Iva Perovanovic (189-C/F-83) of CCC Polkowice. The second best team is combine of Elena Danilochkina (185-G-86) of Nadezhda Orenburg (last season at Vologda-Chevakata), Birsel Vardarli (174-G-84) of Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu, last year's Eurobasket.com All-Europeans 1st Team player - Sandrine Gruda (193-C-87) of UMMC, Nevriye Yilmaz (194-C-80)of Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu, Sancho Lyttle of Ros Casares Valencia (previously at Perfumerias Avenida Salamanca)
