As expected, Joan Plaza became the new Head Coach of Zalgiris Kaunas. The Spanish specialist penned a one-year deal with the club. Plaza officially left Cajasol yesterday. He took them over three years ago. Last season they reached Liga Endesa Quarterfinals and failed to Real Madrid. Cajasol ended regular season as No.7 with 18-16 record. Joan Plaza reached EuroCup Finals with Cajasol a year ago. From 2006 to 2009, he was a Head Coach of Real Madrid and won ACB title with them in 2007. The team also won ULEB Cup that season and Plaza was named Eurobasket.com All-ULEB Cup Coach of the Year. Joan Plaza served as Assistant Coach of Real Madrid in 2005/06. Before that he was Assistant Coach at Joventut Badalona.

The BBL champions have already started building the roster for the next season. They agreed on terms of contract with Jamar Smith (191-G-87, agency: KMG Sports Management, college: S.Indiana). The contracts for both players to be signed will be for three years duration and they will be officially announced within the next hours. According to most Greek media, the two team-mates of the Hellenic NT U16, U18, U21 and Panionios will continue being team-mates by doing the biggest step in their career with the Greens of Coach Pedoulakis. The two players will be (most probably) members and team-mates also in the Hellenic NT of Coach Andrea Trinchieri , for the 2013 summer competition.
With this move, the team of Panathinaikos is adding in the at most way some serious Hellenic blood in the team's roster and is "grabbing" two of the most talented and most promising players born in 1990, having all the future in front of them. The Green team at this stage is matching in a way with the Red team of Olympiakos, since the two youngsters will be competing their team-mates in the Greek NT, Evangelos Mantzaris (196-G-90), Konstantinos Sloukas (197-G-90) and Kostas Papanikolaou (206-F-90), and by the way all five of them formed the unbelievable group of the youth NT's being unbeaten in the European courts and all the competitions of their age during the years 2006-2010.
The next step for the six stars will be the renewal of the contracts of James Gist (he has agreed verbally), Stephan Lasme and Jonas Maciulis, and of course the typical part of renewing the captain and the brains of the team Dimitris Diamantidis

Alex Renfroe (191-PG-86, college: Belmont) leaves the forces of Brose Baskets and will not return to the German team. Both sides part ways as it was announced yesterday.

The last season he played at Enel Brindisi (Lega2) in Italian league. In 38 games he had 12.5ppg, 5.8rpg, 3.6apg and 1.9spg. He contributed to his team winning the league title and the cup. It was a very successful season in his career as he was selected to Eurobasket.com All-Italian Lega2 2nd Team. The season 2010/2011 Renfroe played at KK Zagreb (A1) in Croatian league. The team played in four different competitions (!!!) that year, and he was exposed to basketball on different levels. In 14 A1 games he had 11.0ppg, 5.2rpg, 3.7apg and 2.4spg. He contributed to his team winning the league title. He can count that season as a very successful as was selected to Eurobasket.com Croatian A1 League All-Imports Team, Honorable Mention and All-Defensive Team. Renfroe also played 6 games in EuroChallenge where he had 11.0ppg, 4.3rpg, 3.5apg and 2.3spg. He also played 2 games in Eurocup where he had 12.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.5apg and 2.0spg. And finally Renfroe played 25 games in Adriatic League where he had 9.2ppg, 4.6rpg, 3.8apg and 1.8spg.
