Euroleague round 3 best performance: Rudy Fernandez - Oct 28, 2012

  follow us on Facebook Twitter

Rudy Fernandez (198-SF-85) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Real Madrid, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 27-year old player was the main contributor (21 points, two rebounds and five assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Fener.Ulker (2-1) 83-75. It allowed Real Madrid to take over top position in the Euroleague group A. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Real Madrid has a very solid 2-1 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Fernandez had a remarkable 71.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Real Madrid's top player in his first season with the team. Rudy Fernandez has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 19.7ppg) and averages impressive 60.0% FGP and 42.1% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was 28-year old Fernando San Emeterio (198-F/G-84) of Caja Laboral. San Emeterio had a very good evening with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Of course Caja Laboral cruised to a 95-85 relatively comfortable win over EA7 Armani (2-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. San Emeterio is one of the most experienced players at Caja Laboral and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was center Ioannis Bourousis (213-C-83, agency: FCM) of league's second-best EA7 Armani. Bourousis scored 22 points and grabbed eleven rebounds (!!!). Despite Bourousis' great performance EA7 Armani lost 85-95 to Caja Laboral (#5, 1-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing EA7 Armani needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in group C. Their record is 2 victories and 1 lost games. Bourousis has a great season in Euroleague. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 18.7ppg (5th best) and rebounds with 8.7rpg (4th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Nenad Krstic (212-C-83) of CSKA - 13 points and 6 rebounds
5. Stephane Lasme (203-F-82) of Panathinaikos - 13 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists
6. Nemanja Bjelica (209-F/C-88) of Caja Laboral - 20 points and 9 rebounds
7. Kyle Hines (198-F-86) of Olympiacos - 15 points and 8 rebounds
8. Viktor Khryapa (203-F-82) of CSKA - 10 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Jordan Farmar (188-PG-86) of Anadolu Efes - 14 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists
10. Jerel Blassingame (175-PG-81) of Asseco Prok. - 16 points and 10 assists

The Player of the week is choosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
