Devin Smith
It was only three days ago that Maccabi Tel-Aviv demolished French champions ES Chalon 90-61 in the teams' third Euroleague game of the season.

Chalon's star forward Blake Schilb (Agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices), who averaged 33.5 minutes and 13.5 points per game in two Euroleague contests prior to playing Maccabi, was shutdown by Tel Aviv swingman Devin Smith, scoring just 2 points with zero field goals in 27 minutes.

However, in tonight's Israeli league clash against Maccabi Rishon LeZion and its former NBA draftees duo Julian Wright and Willie Warren (Agency: Interperformances), Smith was absent (due to Russian rule regulations) and his lack of hardwood presence was noticeable. Very noticeable.

Rishon barged into Nokia Arena embarrassing David Blatt's squad 81-64 (43-25), clinching a remarkable road victory. Its second of the 2012-13 season.

Worth mentioning that Tel Aviv returned to Israel from its Euroleague travels late Friday afternoon and held just one preparation practice for what revealed to be the team's first loss of the season.

Rishon lacked rookie point guard Lazeric Jones, who sprained his ankle Saturday night during practice but is expected bounce back in full throttle by next week.

Though they connected on just 3 of their 16 attempts from beyond the arc, Rishon came out victorious thanks to a remarkable effort from former Israeli Division II power-forward Adrian Uter (Agency: Gross Zeev ISA), who crashed the boards en route to a jaw-dropping 22 points, 9 rebounds, 3 block shots and 2 assists outburst.

Rishon's former NBA draft pick Julian Wright was also impressive with 22 points, 9 boards and 4 steals, along with notable fellow ex-NBAer Willie Warren, who contributed 14 points and 4 assists.

In addition, Rishon received valuable support from its Israeli personnel. Team captain Nitzan Hanochi (Agency: Ronsport) game-high 6 dimes went along with his 9 points and 9 rebounds as youngster Or Solomon stepped up with 8 points and 2 boards.

Collectively, Rishon forced Tel Aviv to 21 turnovers (11 in the first half) and held them to 43 percent shooting from the field.

Upon Thursday's Euroleague match against Poland's Prokom Gdynia, Blatt and Maccabi look to continue the upside in Shawn James' (Agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) play (19 points and 6 rebounds in loss to Rishon) as of late.

Prokom's roster features a pair of former Israeli league ballers in ex-Maccabi Haifa/B.C. Habikaa's athletic defender Frank Robinson and Maccabi Rishon's former playmaker Jerel Blassingame, who leads the Euroleague in assists with 9.3 per night.

Though they play in a different country, Prokom's two foreigners are well aware of the hectic atmosphere at Nokia Arena and are expected to better prepare their teammates for Thursday's showdown in attempt to record back-to-back Euroleague conquests.

At the other end of the floor, with several days to arrange new game strategies, one can expect Maccabi will brush aside its early season slump and return to its high-quality basketball displays later this week.
